Download audio books?

Do you have any sites you particularly like? I don't have an mp3 player so I thought I would burn them to a cd to play.

If I did get an mp3 player for this, do you know if there is something specific I should look for? I'm fairly clueless about downloading music although I do have itunes installed.

Now, recently thinking about how to get my favorite audios is something else!

bumblebeez - I am by no means an expert on this, but if you have itunes installed, then you can go to the 'itunes store' at their website and look for audiobooks to purchase.
I would also suggest that if you buy an mp3 player, get one that has quite a lot of memory. They are fun to have!

Thank you thyrkas! There are a lot of sites that have audio books so I don't have to use just itunes. What is considered a lot of memory? The one I'm considering holds 8 hours. But as most audio books can easily be 12 hours or more I'm not sure what to do.
I don't have an mp3 player right now because when I go out in public I want to be connected to people not my ear bud. At home I like the radio or cds.

Tibs, I use my mp3 player for audiobooks. I listen to them while I am walking. I love it. In fact, I enjoy it so much, it's my reward for walking ;) I have an ereader too. I like it. I really like the convenience and the back light of the screen, it makes reading in bed easier. Unfortunately the screen reorients itself if you move...that drives me crazy. The downside to the ereader for me is that I "borrow" from the library, but it's hard to pick a book if you don't know what you are looking for. In a physical library you can browse and flip through books looking for something interesting. Have we had any discussions about Kindle vs Nook? I have a Kindle Fire, I like it. I'm not thrilled with the whole "Amazon is in control and tracking me" thing. If you "check out" a book from the "library", it is not the library, it is from Amazon, they track what you read, and they only let you have it for 7 days. I wished I had known that before I bought it, I might have gone with the Nook.

There are many pieces of good, free software available. I easily have a dozen major software programs that I downloaded for free, and a number of them work better than the paid versions I previously used. And just because you pay for something doesn't mean it's problem-free. It's true that paid software from a reliable company is not going to contain a virus, but it might be the target of a virus because it's popular, or it might come with add-ons that you don't want. Whenever I am contemplating downloading some free software that looks good, I usually do a Google search with the name of the product +"review" or +"problem" or +"scam". If you see that a lot of people seem to be happy with it, or that you don't get significant negative hits, then it's probably safe. Even so, save it first and then give it a virus scan before installing.

The library is the place to get books and dillydally is right; a phone call will extend the due date. At my library one can order any book they want to read from the State Library for three dollars...or the cost of mailing it (book rate) back. You too can extend the due date with the state. You can also download audio books to your PC, MP3 player and Ipod. I'm sure Idaho's state library is as extensive as Utah's. Look them up on the web. I'll bet you will be surprised what is there at your fingertips and for no effort or dollars. Lori

Thanks, Kids. Yes, I download to my computer and then to my MP3. At least that is how I have done it when using our local Library service. I'll check out audible.com. I have seen a lot of the free sites and they look great but the ones I have visited do not have the current titles that I am interested in. Thanks, there is so much out there that I don't know. sooey

I recommend audible.com They have a different levels of membership that get you one or two free books every month and their selection prices are quite good. You're purchased books are stored in a "libary" on their site so you can download them multiple times or section by section if it's a long book.

If you like cd's you could download the book and burn it to a cd. Better yet, if you're cd player will also play mp3 cd's you can download huge books onto one mp3.cd
