Any James Lee Burke fans here?

I just finished "Rain Gods" and it was just great. Any other fans out there?

vannie, until I arrived at RP several years ago, I had never heard of James Lee Burke; perhaps he is less popular in England. On looking him up I find most of the recommendations come from men/crime novel enthusiasts. A few comment on the deja vu of his work . . . but most seem to enjoy it.

I love him and have all his books including the first ones where he was finding his feet--more novelettes than novels. I like the Dave Robicheaux ones much the best. JLB is a lyrical writer and taught for the creative writing program at Wichita State University during the '80s. I got to see him once at a book signing at a local bookstore.

His daughter Alafair Burke also writes crime novels. She isn't nearly as good as he is, but I read them from the library.

Socks 12345, KRLA 870 (in Glendale) has a pretty good lineup, if you like John and Ken and people similar to them. Kevin James is on from 9 to 11 pm. Mike Gallagher is on from 1 to 3am. They may have informercials from 3am on. The signal isn't strong, but if you can't pick it up on the radio, you can listen live on the internet. I don't listen to the 'alien' show either. Not my style. Linda I used to see Imus on MSNBC (More Stuff NoBody Cares about, lol) once in awhile, extra early in the morning. No big fan of his but think he got overly punished for a bone headed comment, considering what the people who called for it get away with. I think most people outside of his listening area didn't know he existed until the controversy. He seems very successful, and does a lot of good works. I began to write that I love his music and was going to say which of his albums I have owned for quite a while..but I couldn't remember the name of the album and not at a place where I could check. So I got on amazon to find the name of the album, then saw Otter's picture and realized the person I was thinking of is Thomas Otten. It sounds like JMU is in the beautiful Shenandoah-valley! I'd love to see that area sometime! Hey Cyn- I read on the Sports portion of their site, that they're gonna have some type of telecast at their stadium?!? An ESPN-feed of some type?!? (Link below...) I was PISSED...it's not available for any of our local stations to broadcast it...$(%!*^@#(%@*^@)!! One local station that usually does the Bison games couldn't get broadcast-rights from the NCAA and/or ESPN. SO...if you live up here, but can't get to the Fargodome, you can't see the game!!! EXCEPT on some obscure ESPN-network that nobody has here.... I s'pose it's available on some Direc-TV kinda packages?!?!? Kickoff is 3pm CST this Sat.!!!! Looking forward to your starting to build and us seeing it come together PI. I don't want to carry a phone with me all over my house, and before I had my whole-house generator, having just a cell phone would have meant it spent much of the time in the car charging. Carrying a phone around with you in the house can be the smartest thing you can do as you age in place. Why? If you fall for example, your phone will be right there to call. DH and I never even answer our home phone anymore because we know the only calls we get on the home phone are spam calls.

I like the Dave Robicheax ones the best too. These are some of my favorite books for audio, particularly the ones narrated by Mark Hammer which are some of the best audios ever.
If you like James lee Burke, check out Stuart M. Kaminskys
Inspector Rostnikov series which is very similar in feel and tone to JLB. Only set in Russia. The audios for those are excellent also.
