What fun to try to use one of these beauties each day !

Just from the A list, my favorite has to be "avatrol" !

And I shall use it at the first opportunity, to be sure !!

Sometimes you see that kind of thing when unicode is not properly converted, it could be the French Ã¯Â¿Â½ is getting the label printer confused. Unicode is the new number-character mapping for computers that supports all the languages of the world so needs to use up to four ASCII characters to represent one character. Sometimes you see the same kind of thing here when people paste from some program into their message and the unicode doesn't get properly converted. Scott PS notice GW even got confused on unicode, the Ã¯Â¿Â½ was one of those French e with accent over it when I typed it above -- ÃÂ©.

I let mine grow for several years so that it would build up some mass. As a seven foot bush I cut it back to five feet. The easiest method is to cut back the main canes to just below where the cane starts to branch out. Then cut any other canes back by half. When I planted mine it was eight inches tall with a main cane that was thinner than a pencil. Now the base of the bush is five to six inches thick at the crown. Lance

It also helps to use smaller panes in the sidelights so they look decorative. Older houses often used leaded glass. Large pieces of obscured glass look institutional to me.

I've grown Golden Celebration for 17-18 years, and I don't remember it ever being susceptible to cold, even when we had a zone 5 winter in 2016-7. GC is one of my top three or four Austins. I agree about grafted, but I like all my roses grafted. Here are a few Golden Cel photos from this year. No blooms in my garden right now because of the series of hard freezes down to 24F we had a week or so ago. Of course, it has warmed up some now. Too late. Many of the words on this list have French, Greek, or Latin root meanings.

I looked for "teg" on it and could not find that in my dictionary either. I gather it must be English slang for sheep. I recently encountered "teg" in Geraldine Brooks' newest movel, " Caleb's Crossing", which is used by settlers in the 1600's in the Massachusetts Bay Colony.

Mary, teg is a regular word among shepherds and sheep farmers to describe a two year old sheep, also 'hogget' and 'shearling'.
I had wondered if it was related to one of the old 'counting' words used by countrymen up to Victorian times, but that word for 'two' is tan/tang (or similar)
