Ebooks...What do you think?

Hi everybody. I'm new to the forum...but I was curious about what everyone thinks of ebooks. I'm considering a Kindle, but I love the feel of books. Help me decide!

I don't own an e-book reader, but I do read e-books on my laptop. While I find it convenient on a certain level, I still feel there is something missing: the texture of paper between my hands and the smell of paper and ink in my nostrils (however, I can live without pages falling out of old books). I would love to test-drive an e-book reader, but I an not convinced I would use one instead of books, so I will not be buying one.

I use a Sony Reader, and I love it. However, at least here in the UK, the cost of eBooks is very high. And there's the DRM issue - do you really want Amazon to suddenly decide they don't want you to have a book and remove it from your Kindle without so much as a by-your-leave?

Ornithogalums??? Oh vetivert, you are bad, but Ornithogalum is the first thing that comes to mind when I think of spring chores and getting to work outside, usually in late Feb. Now I realize my question could have and should have been phrased a lot better. How about this? If the Bulb Forum members would submit their (own) pics of plants and blooms grown from bulbs for a new forum picture, what should it be? . Should it be open to anything grown from bulbs? Should it maybe exclude such things that have more 'specific' forums of their own, such as Lily, Tropical, and House Plant? Should it be an individual bloom, or as you suggested, maybe a still life flower arrangement of numerous delectable blooms grown from bulbs? Please 'scuse me for just having tunnel vision and tunnel thoughts of just Daffodils. At any rate, the folks who are having their spring now, can hopefully be trying to get some great pics. Ok...so when does anyone think we could/should start taking picture submissions? Should we wait until late 2010 so glads could be included by those in the US who grow them? Should we wait a full year (or nearly) so the members down under have an opportunity to have another summer blooming season, like for glads? hmmm...what is fairest? I guess before proceeding, I should check with the 'Powers that be' to see for sure if they would be willing to get the pic changed and updated with a pretty pic of our choosing. I hope lots of folks will give their input and in time, post their pics for entry. In doing a search here on the forum, it seems that Tulips and Daffs are the 2 things most often posted about. I imagine though that tulips are most frequently asked about, due to them having problems, or emerging early, or for not blooming a second season when they are thought to be perennials like daffodils. I made all nine in two days. Maybe I do something different. I stack and glue the pieces all at once. I don't have the patience to wait for each piece to set...the tall thin one is my favorite. I found Candle sticks and the mini vases on top at one yard sale Saturday Morning and had it put together as soon as I got home. If you want to see them close up click on the picture and I have singles of each close up in the album on Picasa. I must confess the red birdbath is simple clear glass that I have painted with glass paint. I wanted to try my hand at revers painting on glass. I am please with the results. I may have to make another painted one I have lots of clear glass but color sure makes a statement. When I started I was only gonna make one or two, Because I had no interuptions I just kept going! I wanted One of each color of the rainbow! LOL They will all be displayed in one Bed, held in with sand then Mulch. I also found Brand New White vinyl edgeing to use but I want to paint it first or at least wash it with some color. I am worried about Hurricane season. LOL Here are some pics of the bird bath. I posted this stool photo as a suggestion for remodel-mama a few weeks ago. As far as I know, no one owns it here. I love it! (Obviously.) Just the right combination of comfy/contemporary/industrial/vintage. Versatile. Cool. On top of everything else, a good price! Seems like it is worth waiting for, but you have to stop looking if you order them. I have two sets of stools, and still don't have the ones I originally loved, because they were on backorder for so long and I gave up waiting. Shoulda kept waiting.

I have a Kindle and love it, but it hasn't replaced paper books. I still frequent the library and have a huge TBR pile. I do love the Kindle for when I travel, though. Not only can I take several "books" to read, but I can also download new books if I run out or if I don't like what I'm reading, and I do this withou having to locate a bookstore.

So, I say yes to e-books, but also yes to the good old-fashioned paper books.

This past summer I tried a friend's Kindle. I had expected to like it, but despite the convenience factor, I really did not. It just seemed ... sterile somehow. It really put me off. I could understand using one for a long trip, but otherwise I strongly prefer real books.

I got my first good look at a Kindle this weekend. Impressive for sure. I've researched a bit online, and almost everyone loves theirs. (OK--not Sheriz6!)

I would bet that most people who use Kindle also have other books they read not on Kindle. I would miss seeing the cover as the book sits on my desk, I would miss seeing how far I am into the book, how far I have to go. But I can see they would be very handy, and if they were more like $100, I might get one.

Many books I read I return to the used book store or of course the library, and really wouldn't want a copy to keep. Wouldn't need to keep a copy of Kindle, but since it holds 1500 books--I guess it doesn't matter if you keep books you don't care about.

Book purchases apparently are about $10. Just amazing to be able to download a book in one minute from anywhere. I get most of my books from the used book store, library or Amazon Marketplace which makes $10 look high usually. Still, Kindle is tempting....so portable...so cool!
