I hope that you enjoy the series. Several of us here have read them all and really enjoyed them.

I also enjoyed the BBC TV series about the Cazelets.

Well, I'm a third of the way through the first Cazelet book and I have to admit its not really holding me. Its quite dry, I keep waiting for something momentous to happen and it doesn't. Hopefully it is because the scene and all the characters are still being set. Since everyone loves them so much, I will persevere!

I spent a good chunk of last summer reading all four volumes back to back -- they were wonderful! Enjoy them.

Same thing happened to me with the 1st book (which I picked up in a bookstore in Vancouver, BC, back in 1992, before the other 3 had been published). I read half of it, then put it aside for a few months, and picked it up again for a trip to England, thinking the British atmosphere would enhance the reading experience. After finishing it on the flight back, I had to wait patiently for the next 3 books to be published. It was like with the Harry Potter books, sort of. So you are lucky you are reading it now.

I confess I was put off when the family cat was killed. Am I thinking of the right book? Anyway, I never finished the first book. I'm odd that way.

I would scold you about the spoiler, but I'm so glad the cats going to be killed just to break up the boredom! You've given me hope. Can't scold you for that!

When you're driving home and you think to yourself "Oh, No! I'm still reading that awful, boring Cazelet book" its time to dump the Cazelets. So I have. I didn't even make it to the war!
Onward.... "Ethan Frome" next.

War is in book 2. (not a spoiler...everyone knows about the WWs.)

Sarah....I was saying it sort of tongue in cheek because it seems to be a book without anything worthy of a spoiler.

Too bad you gave up on the books, each have our taste I suppose, but I thought the entire series was wonderfully written and had great insights into people and their lives and how families coped with adversity in war.
