OT, Does anyone know?

This is off topic but does anyone know the web site where you register books that you leave around in such places as airports, parks, buses, etc., so they can be tracked to some degree?? I seem to have lost it and haven't used it in a long time but I plan on leaving some paperbacks around the airport tomorrow.

I'm garbling things lately due to stress. I wanted her to know the clem she gave me I feared had been killed by the winter has come up. Definitely the clem, small but should be ok. I left that part out. She winter sowed it BTW, so I got it a little back on topic ;-)

Are you a stalker? You're a card! stage_rat, Good idea. I remember she set up an email addy just for GW. I will try emailing to her non-GW email addy. I've noticed nettasaura disappears for periods of time before and then reappears. Yes, she is a real sweetie. Dorisl, I do remember Angie speaking of limiting her on line time, but to just totally disappear, and not share her WSing results in any way, just seems strange. She was so active, and was going to try and help me with reworking the FAQ at the Seed X, which are pretty outdated. Tammy, I found her addy, so will drop her a card. White Pages has of no help. I checked with Flwrs4ever/Kym, who had visited her last year, and she had no info. I'm going to email ollierose and jaleeisa who she was in touch with a good bit too. I'll keep you posted. Sue

Drippy....I've only ever had the common Rose Campion and we don't have the wild one around here....and venation is wrong. Basal leaves are WAY woolly and mine are just slightly felt-like to the touch. I do have a Artemisa that volunteered here a few years ago but this one is completely covered in a downy felt...just like Lambs Ear. But it could be a new Artemesia sp. I'm gonna take a look at that link. Thanks! I also have CFN (Cynoglossum amabile) and it's not as silvery..much more green and also has a more prominent midrib. Along the mid rib there are short veins that run at an angle towards the margin. The unknown plants above have long veins parallel along the mid rib...many of them which start at the leaf base. Good morning Karyn, I grow the actinidia arguta variety and it hardly seems invasive. There is no different coloration between the male and female, and they slowly wind around their respective trellises/fence. The leaf is large and fuzzy/hairy. They stay where I put them. You are describing the fruit of mine too; it is the commercial variety grown in Australia and Europe for retail, so I'm thinking that's what you have too. However, the vine does get quite large, over 30 feet. But it will take it years and years to do this, I've heard 5 or 6. Mine are young, between 1 year and 2 years old. The 2 year old is about 6 feet. As far as looks, the leaves are heart shaped, big and fuzzy. The actual stems are pretty (imo) and bright green with lovely red hairs all over them. Perhaps someone who has older vines can tell you if it invades from ground suckering. Mine don't look at all like they do that, and trimming the tops would keep it shapely.

However, the airport is not a good idea-in fact they warn against it on Book Crossing-because of the security issues. If a shoe can be used as an explosive....

I just wonder how many of these planted books get thrown away. Its a terrible thought. I would rather give them to a library or hospital.
NOT the Salvation Army, I asked AFTER I donated four whole boxes of books and was told that some go in the stores but most get recycled into toilet paper! I was heart-broken for weeks. Any one else heard this?

I combine bookcrossing with paperbackswap-the book is going to someone who wants it, and then I can see how it travels from there. I had released several books "into the wild" in the past and never heard another thing about them-and I fear they did get trashed.

I did check into the paperebackswap site and favorited it. I will explore it.
To be honest I haven't left books around very often...I usually donate them to the library....sometimes I see my donations on the library shelves, sometimes in the library's bookstore. but I didn't know that some are discarded and recycled into toilet paper. Yikes!

In our local charity shops (thrift shops)books that aren't sold within a certain period of time are dumped with the rubbish - just as supposedly 'out-of-date' fashion items - mend suits etc., no matter how fine a condition they may be in. I think it is a disgrace - people give thinking that others are going to benefit - but unfortunately many of these shops ar 'franchises' and no really 'charity' shops at all - something that is kept suspiciously quiet!

I never released a book on bookcrossing. But I did go in search of one, just to see if it was there. The website said it was released in a coffee shop in my town just that morning so off I went.

The book was gone. And no mention of it was ever made on bookcrossing.

I also like paperbackswap. I've "bookcrossed" too. One was picked up-released in the library. I've found many good books at the Goodwill. Don't know if they throw out, but since I find so many there, that's where I donate.
