I miss Nora too. Was just thinking of her the other day. Where is she?? Do we know? I also was thinking of Suzanne a couple weeks ago when I was discussing doing the quotes for two weeks in a row. Where is she too? Naturally there are many others I've been missing. Some I know have been gone a long time. Ruthann and her physo stuff, etc. I've loved your quotes Josh. It's been a week when the little time I've had here I've been without the keyboard on lap. Just the mouse on arm of the chair, so I have been reading, if not posting. Jessie the dog doesn't care for the keyboard balanced on his big head that much...heh.. One of the things I love is when people, you included, use several quotes and I try to follow their thinking as you take us from one quote to another. The path of the quotes is often as interesting as the quotes themselves. Thanks for a nice journey this week. I too wish we all were able to sit and confer together. You might be glad to know that I did eat quite a few clementines while reading late at night.

I do find it unfortunate that school curricula tend to centre around American lit., even in Canada. Sometimes it expands to British lit. too but it's extremely limiting. I teach at an International Baccalaureate school where we are required to teach literature from around the world. Although the translations are not ideal, it adds such a variety, not only to content, but to style of writing and style of thinking. Don't get me wrong, there are some amazing pieces of American and British literature that I could not do without, but to allow students to see beyond the Western, English speaking world is a big deal in Canada. Specifically in Toronto, where we have so many students from so many cultures, they are more open to literature if there is a variety. Even old Canadian literature is not useful for teaching what these children need to know. I, however, would like to read more of Davies' books.

Just ditched the trilogy of Foundation by Asimov . I read Foundation and I quit them when I was halfaway through The Foundation and the Empire; I enjoyed the series when I read them more than twenty years ago, but at the moment I found them too "episodics" and not so riveting IÂm leaving to my loved mountains the day after tomorrow, and IÂm taking along, four Graham Greene novels: - The Heart of the Matter (a re-read) - The Human Factor (also a re-read) - The Ministry of Fear - and - Monsignor Quixote two George OrwellÂs - Burmese Day (re-read) and - Coming up for Air Robertson Davies - Fifth Business Alasdair Gray - Poor Things; IÂm really intrigued by this one.
