Has anyone ever heard the expression, *I chewed the buffalo*? Just wondered what it meant. I had never heard it before. TIA

We had a problem with the computer, and my son had to run several checks to clear it of problems picked up. Everything seems to be working now except spell check. I went to Word (not OE)and typed a sentence with errors. A window came up that said that MSSpell check could not be found. After that I typed another document with spelling errors, and it came up that the spell check was complete, but it did not pick up the errors. I guess my spell check got deleted somehow, so maybe I need to reinstall Word?

There is a very effective program that you can download for free called "Spam-Aid", it will block ALL messages that are from anyone that is not listed in your address book.It is installed on your computer as a separate program and you can use it, or bypass it to check your email the usual way without anything being blocked. Just keep in mind when using Spam-Aid to check you mail, EVERYTHING is blocked and deleted at the server except for messages from those that are listed in your address book. It is very effective at what it does, I use it and am well pleased with it. I might add that the program does have a way for those whom you know that are not listed in your address book to get a messsage delivered to you by way of a "password" which they can obtain from a clue you give them in setting up the program. Thanks you guys for all the comments. I think Maryanne came the closest to what I had thought. He had just moved to Michigan to be a camp counselor at a Bible camp, & he was all excited to be doing this. Then I got this cryptic message yesterday & I also thought something didn't go right. I guess I'll have to wait & see if I hear from him again, which I hope I do. I can't call him cause I don't know exactly where he is.

Same here, Saltidog. I would never and have never signed a Buyer agency agreement. I buy direct through listing agent, or at auctions, or FSBO. Why obligate myself contractually for a long period of time to someone I don't know? If that person is good, he/she will bring me a great house and I will buy it anyway, so commission earned. If he doesn't want to, someone else will. The listing agent always will. Reminds me of the time I had a house with an indoor pool listed, which not everyone wants, so this was the only house I ever had that didn't sell right away. When the listing expired, I already had an accepted offer at my price, but apparently the Realtors who trolled expired listings in those pre-internet days were unaware of this. One sent me some nonsense via fax about how if the house had been listed with HIM, I would not have FAILED so miserably in selling (yes, caps and bolded) and would not be in anguish now with my languishing property. Yes, truly, language like that. He used the word "I" about 25 times in a short paragraph. It made us laugh out loud. Where was he with all these "qualified buyers who would buy my house" the day before it expired? Or the week or the month before it expired. Pants on fire.

I am afraid I don't know the "I chewed the buffalo" expression, either, but vee, I wonder if I can ask about a phrase you used on another thread? You wrote about 'chewing the carpet'- I don't think I have heard that before either. Sorry, judy, I don't mean to hijack your thread. Maybe the expressions are related?

I never heard the "buffalo" expression before. And, like Thrykas, I, too, wondered what "chewing the carpet" means....

I've seen 'chewing the carpet' used to denote overacting; I'm guessing it's the same as 'chewing the scenery'. I think it's also used to mean someone so angry they are throwing a tantrum.

The only things I can think of with chewing buffalo would be
1. softening the hide or 2. taking on a huge project one step (bite) at a time.

Well, I've heard "eating the elephant" used to describe breaking a huge task into smaller bits so it is more manageable-why not a buffalo?

When I googled to chew the carpet I got: Although it's used with reference to overacting, the original meaning is supposed to be to react with uncontrolled anger or anxiety according to the Random House Dictionary of American Slang. Learned something new! I couldn't find anything for chewed the buffalo...
