Any Robert B. Parker fans here?

I'm a big fan, and have been reading his books, beginning with the Spenser novels, for years. This month I read Blue Screen, the 2006 Sunny Randall novel, and High Profile, this year's Jesse Stone novel, in quick succession. I must say I'm disappointed.

Mirroring his own marital situation (married, separated, living in separate houses, now living on different floors of the same house), Parker's characters have always struggled with "can't live with 'em, can't live without 'em" relationships. That's fine. And his books are noted for their psychological insights, which I used to enjoy. But in these two books he drives both of those things into the ground, it seems to me. I became so weary of it that I found myself saying "Enough is enough!" more than once.

Maybe it's because he's turning out so many books at such a rapid rate. Or maybe his approach is changing with his advancing age (he'll be 75 this year). Or maybe it's me!

Any other opinions on this?
