Reader's Paradise

Please help me identify this time travel novel

In the summer between high school and college, a young woman takes a job working at a living history museum in a Canadian fort. One day she slips back into the past era that the museum has been re-creating. This has happened to several other people. None of them knows how to get back to the present. Only the time travelers themselves even notice the change at either end, since they trade places with people who have been sent to our present.

This novel absolutely fascinated me when I read about 15-20 years ago and I would love to read it again. I had thought it was written by Elizabeth Marie Pope but I was wrong. Does anyone recognize it? My search has been without success.

Paula, sorry I can't come up with a title but your search intrigued me as I remembered my daughter perhaps up to 20 years ago (can it really be that long?) reading a YA book about a girl living in an old house in what was 'York' now the city of Toronto and going 'back in time' and wondered if it was by the same author. I had a 'rummage' through her books (she is still in South America so will be none the wiser) but couldn't find it. I did find my copy of The House on the Strand by D du Maurier (excellent tt read) and Charlotte Sometime by Penelope Farmer (for older children) a well-regarded book dealing with 'time travel' back to WWI.

I hope you find this and will share the title with us - it looks intriguing. I searched around but didn't find anything promising.

It would help to see a picture of the entire plant or, at the least, a description of the entire plant. The 6th (I think) image -- darkish leaves -- may be a flowering crabapple. I did go to see the movie, and was not blown away by any means, but also not completely disappointed by it either. I was curious how they were going to apply the book so it made sense in a film version and I think they did the best they could. I went with two friends who did not read the book and both of them really enjoyed the movie. I explained to them that it was a "candy-coated" version of the book. Everything portrayed in a much lighter way than in the book. It lost a lot of the charm of the book but I wasn't upset by it like I usually am after reading a book and watching the film adaptation. I've seen far worse than this. Johngalt: As far as your issue with the wedding playing out with the older Henry, I think you forget that even when his future self is present in the past, that is the way the past happened, even if he isn't aware of it at the time. Remember that as Clare grows up she knows Henry without the present Henry being aware of it. He doesn't meet her until their 1991 meeting although she knows him intimately. So, even the first time around, the wedding occurred with the future Henry stepping in for the present Henry. Which is why Henry has no free will outside of what is happening to him at the moment. His future is decided as well as his past.

Right, Kristine?!? but I only ever had a few mislabeled out of close to 150 rose bushes over the years, quite a few of them were body bag roses. I don't mind the surprise and body bag roses generally do very well for me, over the years I only lost a handful to rabbits. They grow very well and bloom a lot, it's just not the correct rose and I would like to know what they are if anybody has an idea.

THE HOUSE ON THE STRAND was one of my favorites when I first discovered the time travel genre.

THE MIRROR by Marlys Milhiser is a wonderful time travel also. A young woman on the eve of her wedding looks into a family antique mirror and relives her own grandmother's life.

Of course OUTLANDER holds the top spot.

Have you checked the "Charlotte's Library" blog list? There are a number of time slip titles there and you may recognise this book.
I presume you have done a Google search trying a lot of permutations of the main points of the story?

Thanks, everyone - I've checked these links and more. Flaky internet connections this past week have not been very helpful.

After pouring through everything I could think of, I finally found it -- Another Shore by Nancy Bond.

Victory! I ordered a copy to keep for the next time I want to read it.

I read The Mirror years ago too and loved it. Every time I move I make sure that is one of the many books that move with me. I plan to read it again. Maybe this will get me to read it soon.
