Well i'm not sure what to make of this...could the publication date ie. the first of April mean its a wind-up? If its for real then i guess its like everything...you need to see it to make a decision....

My first acquaintance with a number of classical works of literature was through comic book adaptations. That no-one should have adapted P&P before frankly surprises me.

I read some article - possibly on the Observer website - where someone was expressing happiness about the project, but was unhappy that the Bennett sisters looked 'too modern', whatever that means. Possibly they were too sexy for that reader.

I remember reading a comic book of Les Miserables when I was about six or seven--my introduction to the classics.

I read comic books all the time as a kid and as others, think it could motivate a child to seek out the "real thing".
I know movies certainly do that with me today.

Elizabeth Gaskell is someone I would never have read/heard of until movies were made from her books.

I remember reading Classics Illustrated comic books with I was a kid. They may not have done Pride and Prejudice, but they did do Wuthering Heights.

I read Silas Marner in Classics Illustrated, in Swedish, as a young child and it put me off the real thing for years. Silas was drawn so ugly. I read the original not long ago and found it a very good book.

While not a GN, Pride and Prejudice and Zombies is developing a cult following. I've heard it includes all of the original P&P text in addition to the cleverly inserted zombie story line but since I haven't read it (and probably won't) you can form your own judgment.

I don't mind graphic novels as a rule, but poor Pride & Prejudice is so over exposed and abused, I really hate to hear of yet another retelling, reworking, sequel, or film version coming out. I'm surprised Toys R Us isn't selling a line of action figures.

I grew up with Classic Comics or Illustrated. They were done very intelligently and I think a lot of kids wouldn't have made it through a lot of classics if they actually had to read them I hope to see P&P on the newsstands.

Rouan, we most definitely did not have them around the house. Our mother thought comic books were trash. I don't know where I came in contact with them, but reading them was a guilty pleasure.
