Did anyone archive our Shakespeare discussion of a few years back here at RP? I'm now reading "Will in the World" and it would be helpful to compare and contrast information on the bard and his life.

Below is the link to some of the archived threads thanks to the Way Back Machine site. If no one here archived it, you could search through the site to see if it's included in the September 2003 through October 2004 time period. Sorry I don't have time to search for it myself, but the lawn mower calls. Believe me, I'd rather be searching than mowing. :-)

Sue, I would uninstall it before installing an older version. I would use revo uninstaller or appremover instead of the control panel add/remove app though. Here are links: Revo Uninstaller AppRemover either will do a better job than the control panel app.

Yep, There are about 21 posts per page, so when you consider there are about a page or a bit more than a page of posts a day, it would take a little over 2 months to fill 67 pages. There's plenty of room and new posts are what makes things interesting. But when one person creates 3-4 posts on the same day about the same topic, 3 old posts are no longer displayed....

If you mean the thread on the Crusades, I did find an archive of that one (maybe this is Martin's archive). I also do not remember one specifically on the Middle Ages. I'm not sure if you'd like this book, Mary, it's a sort of Douglas Adams sci-fi/mystery but The Eyre Affair has a delightful subplot regarding Shakespeare's authorship.

I know absolutely nothing about the dueling theories regarding Shakespeare's identity, but when I saw this article this morning, I thought those of you who do might enjoy it -- it certainly sounds odd to me! Is this a legit theory?

(Personally, I'm waiting for Bill Bryson's next book to sort this all out *vbg*)

Sheri, thanks again for posting this. I found it fascinating. I think it must be a legit. theory because Greenblatt touched upon this in his "Will in the World."

Another theory I found interesting was the possibility that Christopher Marlowe did not die in a drinking bout but was assassinated, as he may have been a spy for Sir Francis Walsingham, who was attempting to protect the Queen from certain Catholic plots. I remember we had a thread on Marlowe at RP after a particular TV show and now I wish I had archived it or paid more attention to it.

Sheri, the books about Shakespeare seem to keep coming thick and fast. I suppose the less we know about someone the more we can make up.
I have no doubt that another theory will come along soon to replace it.
Even the book Mary mentions Will in the World has taken a bit of stick over here, as it is felt in some quarters that Greenblatt isn't up on his British history and changes facts to suite his arguments.
