I think that is a terrific idea, count me in!

Shortly after we had our discussion on "Angle of Repose", I read "Crossing to Safety" (which I found quite different from AOR). Yes, I think it would make for an interesting discussion.

Two other books which I would like to see discussed here are Paton's "Too Late the Phalarope" and Waugh's "Brideshead Revisited."

I'm not sure that I would reread the Stegner book and it's been too long ago that I did read it for me to discuss it with intelligence. But I would like to get involved in a good, discussable book.

Mary, I have never read Too Late the Phalarope, though I'm curious about it because you have mentioned it several times. I would have to reread Brideshead Revisited, which sounds like an inviting possibility. I'm not going to make any suggestions because my taste doesn't often mesh with wide interest.

I am just starting Brideshead Revisited myself. First time reading it. I would certainly be up for a discussion on it now or even at a later date if another book is picked to read.

Brideshead is one I haven't read, although I saw the earlier TV series.
Liz I don't thing I'd want to read another Stegner yet. None of his works are available in the UK.
Mary I read Too Late the Phalarope at your suggestion. Well-written but oh so dismal and hopeless.

I am up for anything although not so keen in Brideshead. Haven't read TLTP so that might work.

My book group is reading Brideshead this month. I would love a discussion here.

My first preference would be to discuss Brideshead. But I will go along with whatever the majority chooses.

I'd love to take part, but I'd prefer not to read something "dismal and hopeless" please *g*. I've never read Brideshead but would certainly be willing.

Who would like to lead? I don't mind, but this one may be the best timed as I just started a new job and I don't know how much time I can play on the net during the day yet.

Well I have ordered 'Brideshead' from the library and they actually have a copy on the shelves and will send it out on the 'Mobile'. I promised myself a year or so ago that I would try and read at least one 'classic' work a year . . . so this could well be it.
I have never led a discussion before and don't mind having a go, but don't want to tread on any toes. My family all tell me I'm far too bossy. You have been warned. ;-)

Looking at calendars - how about the middle of March as a due date to start the discussion? But of course I am open to anything....

Liz, the middle of March might be a bit soon for me, I wont be able to pick up the book until the 13th and will probably need to take a couple of weeks to read/assimilate it; I don't even know how long it is.
I think a more practical date might be early April . . . if that's OK with everyone.

Late March or early April would suit me better, FWIW.

I will not have my copy for about a week or so either-early April works best for me too.

Finally found the book at a long-lost second-hand bookshop and have been reading it every night. It's wonderful and although this is a re-read, I am enjoying it much more this time around.

Since I know next-to-nothing about Roman Catholicism, I googled it because it seems to play a starring role in this novel for some reason. Learned a lot as well. Thank you, Wikipedia.

I finished it last night (first-time read and have not seen the videos). I loved it.

I'm done with the book and looking forward to discussion. I have the Emma Thompson Brideshead DVD in hand, but I'm not sure when I'll have a chance to watch it.
