...until I made my first visit to the UK this summer. Spent time in Glasgow Botanical Gardens, Kew Gardens, Iona, Glastonbury, Collett Park in Shepton-Mallet...

never wanted to come home. You do it brilliantly - applause, applause!

Botanical gardens tend to make me feel like I'm not a gardener too! Mind you I've only been gardening for under 10 years. It's fun though, seeing what can be done on a large scale and then maybe incorporating an idea or two. You covered quite a distance on one trip, didn't you?

The climate helps us a lot. Reading the US forums shows what many of you have to contend with.

Thanks to everyone for the memories! The house is SOLD!!! YEA!! mnwsgal ... I still have some "Ice Ballet' seed! Waiting till I get to a permanent home to start it though. Barbara ... Glad you are enjoying the Hyssop. Not sure if I have any seed from that. Too bad too because it made a lovely home in a corner by my powder room (sigh ...). I live in Spring Creek, Nv. Further up North than you, good luck with a garden. The growing season is so short here that nothing has time to mature. I would suggest raised beds and covers, it will extend your growing season, hopefully, by a couple of weeks. Im lucky tho, I have greenhouse, (neener, neener, lol,). I would suggest, if raised beds are mabye a little too permanent for your living stiuation, that container gardening is the way to go. Believe it or not, you can grow just about everything in a container, plus, if you have a garage or some sort of large outbuilding, you can move the containers inside and out of the frost. (Which happens farily early here in North and Northeastern Nevada.) Good luck and keep us updated on your gardening success!!

Kathy, I know you have the best of intentions but I think you're biting off more than one person can chew since your ideas are weather-dependent and advertising intensive (cost-wise). What it also won't help is getting the interested people to the shelter to adopt some of these rescued animals. What you could do is make people aware this fellow needs donations of pet food and cat litter. Just remember, animal control officers frequently have to respond to noise and odor complaints and find a burden of under-fed/watered semi-feral small animals that bred and expanded way beyond the original intent of the shelter provider. You have a good heart but I suspect this fellow needs simple donations of pet food and perhaps donations of veterinary services.

Many, but not all. Here in the NW corner of the U.S., the climate is similiar to a lot of the UK. That's why I pop in here on this Forum from time to time.
A picture of some conifers in Westonbirt Arboretum, Glouceshire I saw in a tree book inspired my garden's design. That and a trip to North Devon near Bideford where I toured a garden called Marwood. Absolutely lovely!
Oh, and two days at Kew Gardens while staying in Soho.
I hope to return someday.

Lost gardens of Heligan, Eden Project, Wisley, Harlow Carr,, Westonbirt, Chatsworth, Chelsea Flower Show....
Next time you'll have to try to visit one of the big flower shows.

I spent several years in Scotland one of my favorite haunts was the Royal Botanical Garden Edinburgh.
