Thanks for your help. I am in Arkansas... Summer's can be in the 90's to 107 during the day and 40's to 20's in the winter. I want the system to be able to cool and heat efficiently and to not use excessive energy. Would a 2 ton be sufficient? Is there a large benefit of a 2 stage, multi speed unit over a single stage, single speed? Is 80% good enough or should I consider 95% for an additional $3000? How about the brands... is there a benefit of one over the other? It's a big investment and I want to do this correctly. Thanks again

I laugh whenever I hear people saying that they want the "best quality for the best price"... Don't WE ALL? Since it's subjective, you will never find confirmation of what you are seeking. A wise person will understand this and then make a logical choice based on the limited volume of intel that they can collect in the timeframe they have. For me, that was about two weeks as my old system was still functioning correctly. Our new systems were installed last week so look up my posts on here for more details (if you like) One question nobody on here has yet asked is ... "Where are you planning on installing the furnace? Higher efficiency units may be unwise in an attic so... I recently put in a 80% Lennox (in the attic) as well as a 96% Lennox (in the crawlspace) each with a significantly more expensive A/C condensor for about 30% LESS than your quotes so while prices differ based on installation and location, I can tell you that my 3-ton SL18XC1/SL280 (80% furnace) was $7,100 after rebates. My SL18XC1/EL296 (96% furnace) was $7,350 installed & that INCLUDED the new S30 icomfort T-stats & the 5" Merv 11 Filtration cabinets in each system. As a comparison I did get a comparable Trane Quote of the same price for a XR14 system so, at least in my market, the Trane & Lennox Signature Series were comparably priced. In fact, the Trane dealer bumped their system up to a XR17 for the same $7,500 price point in an attempt to win the business.

I am pretty happy with the look and feel of the Aluminum Clad windows. The Integrity was bad for 2 major reasons. 1. They were unable to come close in many of the windows sizes (these windows are pretty tall, some are about 7'6") 2. The "tract" where the window moves up and down is tan or white only. I want a black on black window, the tan tract on the inside of the window is extremely unappealing. The Kolbe is able to do the black aluminum with the black painted wood interior. This house is a contemporary rancher and the exterior will be white board and batten hardiboard (cement block construction) with a dark grey metal roof. All the windows and doors must be impact for code in my area. The house will eventually see for about $800,000 (so I cannot spend a million dollars on windows) and the windows should be great quality, but not best quality. I also have 8 sets of french doors. Spending $100,000 on windows and doors does not make me feel great.
