That works, for your face and any other exposed areas I would suggest some Ivy Guard.

nywoodsman's worldview is such because he has never experienced poison ivy like the rest of us! My wife and I are very allergic to p.I. But she is more allergic than I. We went to Disney World one year and they wouldn't let us in to a tour group because they thought she had a highly contagious skin disease (like eczema) on her face!! We had an abundance of it growing in a shrub we wanted to keep. I trimmed the shrub but avoided p.I. like the plague!! But it got so bad growing out of control each year that this year I had to do something. I obtained SYRVET's OB Veterinary Gloves which go all the way up to the shoulders (you can get them on Amazon). I had my wife tape them to my shoulders--however, you have to tape them across the back of the shirt, from top of glove to top of glove because the sweat will cause the tape to come loose and the glove will descend down to near the wrists. Not good!! After I finished working, I had my wife carefully pull the long gloves inside-out and we placed them in a plastic bag for disposal. She had to wash right away but did not get any rash. Once the gloves were off and disposed of, I immediately used Technu on my hands and wrists by rubbing them for several minutes. Then I used a liquid soap on that and washed my hands and wrists off. I followed that with a shower. Don't think that wearing an old pair of pants will protect you completely! Some of the urushiol oil penetrated the cloth and I got a rash on my thigh. I treated it with Technu soap regularly for several days. That did not get rid of the rash but it did lessen the severity of the itch. Some may be interested In knowing that Technu also makes something called "Tecnu Corticool" which is a hydrocortisone that gives you relief from the itch. But you will have to apply it again after awhile. This cream comes in a 1.5 oz tube and can also be gotten on Amazon. Hope this helps

Sara, we have public water here anyway since the 1990's, both me and the neighbor on the other side of me near this area. Cearbhaill, I had assumed that all brush/ivy and weed killers were all the same, having Glyphosate as the main ingredient, maybe in various strengths. I had purchased Roundup Ivy killer/brush killer in the past and no luck, so I hope they did n't have the Triclopyr in it, or it didn't work. I am waiting until next month to purchase it, which is next week, so I will not be using it right away, unless I use the ol plastic to purchase it. It's raining today, but, the weekend is supposed to be nice. I may cave and just get it along with some other stuff I need from Lowes on the plastic (credit) sooner than next month. Okay, as I read the posts I see that it just may injure my Norway spruce. I will be using it on the Yew shrubs, because I think that it has spread to the Norway spruce from the Yews, they are side by side, otherwise I'm thinking it would'nt have had much vigor under my heavily lower limbed NS, it should've been too shaded out to get the moxy to start up the NS tree. And those Yews can be removed if it kills them. But, again, my yews have been shading the soil also. I don't trim them, ever, so they should've hampered growth also. Davidrt, thanks for adding to cearbhaills concerns about conifers may suffer etc. Kyle it isn't easy to find the growing point out of the soil, if it was I wouldn't be bugging anyone, it would be a simpler task. There's a lot of foliage and branches covering the start point, or original vine's starting point. I guess I could try to pay the neighbor to cut the Yews down to ground level, but, that's the privacy between me and him, they may not grow back right, and some birds will likely eat more seeds and crap there and more will come up. I am able to get rid of the many who have started creeping up my other (deciduous) trees who's foliage IS limbed up, unlike the Yew and Norway spruce. Kyle, my Norway spruce, and Yews have foliage near the ground, the NS is impossible to go under and find the trunk at the bottom where the vines are climbing up, unless you can go through the large limbs hugging the ground. Maybe with a suit on so you won't feel all the needles scraping your skin off your back, and the suit should cover your head too so all the bugs and needles won't get in your hair, that is if you can wiggle through it all. Anyway, I'm gonna try the Triclopyr in the Yew, and maybe it is going to get the vines coming up in the NS, they may have originated in the Yew which is right up against it.

Short, soft draping plants may not be the answer. You can sit on ivy, cotoneaster, phlox and many other short groundcover plants just fine. What you don't want is some thorny bush or any woody shrub poking you in the back and butt crack. You need to take away the back rest space. I think you were on the right track with the roses. In winter yes they'd be ugly. I think roses are ugly shrubs in general. You can get thorns in evergreen though. Dwarf Burford Holly is the first that comes to mind. There are bound to be more.
