If you have not heard about Jinxie losing her mate or how we got the ducklings you may want to search the other duckling posts. Jinxie had been so lonely it would break our hearts as she squawked so loudly searching for her Felix. We read that ducks should not be raised alone so we now have 11 ducklings hoping some day she will accept them. She has chased away many wild ducks who landed on our pond and then,,,,,,,,,, along came Ronnie. Cormo Ronnie as we call him. A cormorant is in the pelican family and is not loved by people who raise fish as the little devils will dive,disappear beneath the water and eat tons of your fish. They are also a protected species. For some reason Cormo Ronnie and Jinxie have hit it off. They sit on the bank almost all day, eating and swimming a bit,napping a bit. It has been good company for Jinxie but I am sure our fish numbers have gone down considerably. Cormorants spread their wings to dry, Jinxie flaps hers but can't keep them open that long. But here she is trying! It won't be long and the ducklings will be able to take there rightful place on the pond and we do not know what will become of Cormo Ronnie but we shall see!!!!

Smiling about the amusing tales of hummer actions... I believe every one of them! I've seen hummers hover expectantly a few feet away while I exchanged empty feeders for filled ones, I've had hummers try to feed while I was carrying feeders (even though there were other feeders around), I've had them come and examine me a few feet away while out in the yard (away from feeders), and sometimes they will perch surprisingly near me (while I stand still) but not when (equally still) "strangers" are present. They seem to notice the difference between me and my cats, too, though the cats never pay them any attention at all (both the cats and the hummers have learned they can't be caught). They are such wonderful little creatures. I wonder if there is any creature in the world with such "positive ratings" and so few "negatives"! Who could possibly hate a hummingbird?

Very interesting....sounds like a government coverup job to me. Having been through Laredo on my way from escaping Mexico and my south-of-the-border undercover alias, Carlosbtoo, I can appreciate the interest locals would have of anything out of the ordinary (ordinary being drug sales, busts, hijacks, and various and sundry other drug-related criminal activity) that occurred in that little All-American illegal alien-absorbing community. But I have a completely true personal account of really big worms. As a child, when I visited my Grandparents every summer, my brother, cousin Danny, and I would go down into the back pasture to dig fishing worms from the side of the earthen dam holding my Papaw's bass in the reservoir created by it. We dug there because that's where the giant worms were. My Gramps had been digging em since he was a small boy. Using a grubbing hoe, and being careful not to dig deep enough to breech the dam (just joking), we would dig a little bit until one of those really big worms grabbed the hoe, or got in the way of it...on purpose, we always believed. We'd then pull on the worm and slowly extricate the monster from his hole. How big? One worm would be all the bait we'd need for some serious fishing. The creatures were as big around as a twelve year old country boys' thumb when they were not stretched out. When "elongated" they could have been over 3 feet long but the total length was difficult to determine since who knows when one is totally elongated, plus, we hardly ever dug one up whole. The advantages of fishing with these big boys? Only REAL big bass would dare to challenge even a piece of one of them, and, sometimes, the worm would snare the fish swimming by and, I guess, stick him on the hook, since we caught lots of bass that weren't hooked in the mouth. These worms were, understandably so, pretty arrogant. Since they were the biggest creature in their domain, they had only one real enemy....three little kids, and a grubbing hoe. So help me!! I enjoyed Midnight in Paris very much...the time travel was fascinating, the storyline was very clever and the costumes were wonderful. Kathy Bates was great. I, too, think Owen Wilson seemed dense in ways. I'm a Southerner, so his accent got to me, but that's just my opinion. I don't think the political commentary on his fiancee's parents was needed for the story. Did anyone else notice that Lea Seydoux who played Gabrielle looked eerily like Mia Farrow?
