Well, hecky darn! I have a million of these! Take a look at my trade list because you have a lot of stuff I would love to have -- maybe we could have a bigger trade than just a single pack. As an alternate to seeds, I also have tubers, but they'd be expensive to mail. This is from Swan Island: ***Where to Plant Dahlias need a sunny location to thrive. An area that receives at least 8 hours of direct sunlight is best. Exception for hot climates, they will need morning sunlight, afternoon shade. *** (That is echoed over and over if you google 'growing dahlias in hot climates.') Even way up here, by noon the sun invariably makes for mid day wilt. I would protect them from that direct midday sun either by positioning in part sun/shade at that time, or with umbrellas or shade cloth if you can manage it. Sounds like you have ample opportunity to water- I just know my other potted plants bake in the sun and dry out fast outdoors. But don't assume they are wilting for lack of water, and pour on more. I learned the hard way that you could very well be drowning/rotting the tuber and THAT is causing the wilt. See the link below. Although written from a S. You cited exactly what to look for; scorched leaves (I just pull them off) fading blooms (I cut 'em before they get a chance to think about fading) and wilted leaves. Bishops Children are open centered dahlias from the dahlia Bishop of Llandaff. No dahlias come back true to the parents from seed so you are likely to get a mixture of colors if you try to keep seed. The blooms from the tubers you get from your Bishop's Children will have the same color as their parent. These open centered dahlias are the easiest to get seed from & if you're not fussy & looking for good show quality dahlias they can be fun to experiment with. As for keeping them growing over the winter- they need a lot of light unless you just cut them back & store them in the container. They will get really leggy if you don't have lots of light.
