When I was in college in the late 90's, I used a Rainbow at one of the houses I cleaned on the side. I LOVED it and knew one day I wanted a water vac. (*NERD ALERT) In 2008, I bought a Hyla. My then husband nearly fell over when I told the salesman I would take it. I think I spent around $1500-2000 with the carpet cleaner attachment and all the bells and whistles. In 2009, we had a house fire. I made sure the Hyla was safe when we exited. She survived just fine. In 2010, I used my Hyla while cleaning various residential properties for remodel. In 2012, we adopted another pet or two which means more fur. In 2018, I took the hose into the local vacuum repairman. He is an odd dude. He made negative comments about Hyla and was reluctant to help me. Apparently, it was a towel stuck in the hose, which he removed for a hefty fee. I believe he doesn't like Hyla because if everyone had them, he would lose business. The 2 repairs I've had to make in 12 years have been minimal and mainly due to user wear and tear. Our Hyla gets used A LOT. Fast forward to 2020. I still have my dearest Hyla, but not the dearest husband. I chose well! She always picks up after herself. She cleans like a champ. I can't stand the way a regular vacuum feels like you just push dust around the house. I am very attached to this vacuum and have always been happy that I purchased it. I pray she lives forever, but if her time comes to an end, I will 100% buy another! I write this review now, after 12 years of having this vacuum because I hate reading reviews and wondering if a product held up but not knowing because the review was written so soon after purchase. I'm here to tell you, if they still sell Hylas, I would 10/10 recommend. PS: I'm not a paid reviewer, I just love the hell outta my Hyla!

Fishes, There is basically not a single best fit answer for everyone. Do you know about the quality of your water? What do you want to filter? In our case we have very hard water and a very high level of nitrates and phosphates as some of the city source is well water. So we are going with the K5 reverse osmosis system by kinetico..same as Beekeeper'swife. More expensive but we need it. Our softened water will feed it and I hope to get a drinking water faucet in the prep sink and also feed the pot filler. The K5 system can be installed in the attic and feed the storage tank(which incidentally is bigger in kinetico). I am actually not doing any ice maker. Decided to buy ice instead as we use ice rarely and the ice maker takes too much room in the sub zero freezer drawer. I am tempted by the instant hot (it would be lovely to quickly grab green tea when I am busy during the day but Then with the induction, it does seem a bit much. Lalitha Lalitha

I would be less concerned with having a filter if I had well water & more concerned with having one on city water. City water gives you all kinds of things to worry about like chlorine & chloramine (chlorine w/ammonia) both of which cause serious damage to the collagen of your hair & skin, eventually causing permanent damage to those cells ability to regenerate (perform mitosis). This aggravates/exacerbates eczema, psoriasis, hair loss & the list goes on. You might be getting hydrofluorosilicic acid (Fluoride) added to the water by the city which is actually a waste by-product of phosphate fertilizer production & happens to be contaminated with lead, arsenic, chromium, mercury & radioactive nucleotides (documented). To make matters worse the chlorine combines with organic matter in the water to form disinfectant byproducts or DBPs such as trihalomethanes, which are documented hundreds of times more toxic than the disinfectants themselves, linked to cancer birth defects & reproductive harm. Not only that but you absorb 10 times more of all these contaminants in a 15 min shower than you would by drinking it ALL DAY. This is partly due to the fact that many of these chemicals vaporize when heated so you breath them into your lungs, directly into the blood stream across the mucous membrane. That's not even getting into what all that is doing to imbalance the fertility of your soil, killing all beneficial soil organisms & such. So yes, I would definitely be concerned with getting a filtration system for the immediate & foreseeable future. For the long term I would start looking into demanding that our municipalities start updating these outdated systems & implementing technologies to legitimately resolve these serious problems so that it's not left up to informed citizens to pay additional exorbitant out of pocket expenses for clean water, in essence paying to UN-DO what our elected officials used our tax dollars to pay for.

I am adding some photos in case they are helpful to anyone. I have a "cluttered sink." ;) I am ok with it because it still looks balanced and is a large sink. It has a bridge faucet (Grohe Bridgeford) w/ side spray and a R/O cold water faucet (Newport Brass.... they match really well for different brands!) The R/O faucet was added after we moved in as we realized we needed to further purify our rural well water. We used the hole/space the air gap had used. Of course, the water softener ppl will say this is perfectly fine.... but our plumber agreed later on that it should be fine. (In some parts of the country, air gaps aren't required by code. In some they are. If we sell our house, we'll have to put the air gap back to pass inspection.) What I like about our set up is that the faucets have plenty of room to swing completely. My hubby and I can easily stand side-by-side at the sink, both using a faucet. This happens often. RE: the speed of the faucet.... the R/O faucet is quite slow. It isn't as bad as the filters you can add on to your existing faucet, but it's close. Since I'm normally only filling a glass of water, I don't mind. I got used to the speed and waiting some extra seconds. It certainly takes less time than going to the store and hauling home bottled water. :)
