Ponds in the UK

How loud are frogs?

For a couple of weeks now, we've been hearing very loud strange noises at intervals; usually about three calls at a time, then a few minutes' break, then three more or so - and then hours and hours of silence. At first we thought some neighbour had acquired an exotic bird and was keeping it in one of the gardens that backs onto ours. However, sometimes the noise seems to be coming from our pond!

We have two regular frogs in the pond (Statler and Waldorf) - could it be one of them? I thought they would only be noisy at mating season in the spring.

The frogs in and around my ponds sometimes start a 'chorus' of croaking (usually in the evening). They have many different 'voices'/'pitches' etc., but you can TELL it's frogs.
However one of the resident Magpies has started making a sound which sounds like a cross between someone gargling and a crow! Think it's trying to imitate the frogs!
Another Magpie is brilliant at mobile phone ringtones but if it starts mimicking 'The Crazy Frog' I'll shoot it!!!

Thanks, Sue. I don't think it's a magpie as the sound always comes from the same corner, which is why we thought it might be a caged bird. It sort of sounds like a frog, but so loud!

They were sure loud last night. The toads are back now and together with the leopards, a little gray tree frog and some cricket frogs they had quite a party. I went out to the pond and turned on the lights and it didn't bother them at all. They were everywhere and putting on a great show. I guess the reason we have so many is we only have a few small fish. I wonder if "act 2" is tonight? Hope so. Michelle

Frog people---Frog with colorectal prolapse.

your post has gotta be a first for the garden web pond forum! i had a hen with the same problem, used vaseline on my rubber-gloved finger and pushed the prolapse back in and all was fine again for her- she even continued to lay eggs. a frog tho?- hmmmm. i donno. maybe IF you can catch it, use vaseline on a q-tip and try to poke the prolapse back in place? i'm very unclear about a frog's personal anatomy tho, so can't imagine if this is even possible. poor thing - nature just might take care of this problem herself but, like you, i would want to help. if you decide to euthanize, maybe wrap it in something soft and put it in a freezer? or drop it in boiling water like we do with innocent but delicious lobsters. both ideas make me sad. min

How loud is your Liebherr refrigerator?

Hi @sprtphntc7a, I am considering to get the CS 2092 which is an updated model of your CS 2082. Could you please tell me if you have any issue with the two French doors of your Liebherr? I saw the CS2092 in the showroom and found that under most FD fridges, this model does not have a flap to close off the gap between the two doors. Instead there seems to be something magnetic inside and along the edge of each door which attracts each other to close off the gap. I just wonder if this magnetic mechanism works well enough to seal the unit and keep the temperature. Any comments you can share would be much appreciated.

Heard croaking this afternoon in the pond, I wonder if it's due to the flying ants making an appearance so loads of food about so the amphibians are getting excited and territorial. Even the toads are out snacking in the afternoon, and I usually don't seem them in the day.
