Liebherr Freestanding French Door Refrigerator Power Supply Size
Comments (7)I recall it being just a regular 3-prong plug that goes into the wall. So I think about 1-1.5" for the plug sticking out. Even if you didn't have that much side clearance, I think there are recessed wall outlets you could use in place of your current flush outlet - common for home theater behind wall-mounted TV. Then you'd only need enough side clearance for the thickness of the cord: http://www.amazon.com/Leviton-689-W-Recessed-Receptacle-Residential/dp/B0012DKBL2/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=hi&qid=1233454378&sr=8-1 I believe the recommendation for the location of the outlet has to do with the length of the refrigerator cord; if on the side you might need an extension cord....See MoreI want to shoot my new LOUD refrigerator
Comments (32)It's taken me a while to get around to reading this thread as we bought a new fridge last year and are very happy with it. It's an Amana bottom freezer, which replaced....an Amana bottom freezer. The new one does seem to run more often, and is VERY slightly noisier - I can hear a very soft low-pitched hum if I'm within one foot of it, when it turns on. If I am any further away I don't notice it. The previous one was so quiet I sometimes wondered if it was running! I love the Amana. Here's my take on the pros/cons: PROS: - VERY quiet. It's a sealed compressor unit, apparently. This has a definite "con" to it, mentioned below. - Holds a ton of food. I have never quite figured out how Amana does this. The shelves are adjustable, but they don't look any different than any other fridge model. Yet all I need do is rearrange a few bowls and jars, and I can slide in another 4-qt Tupperware, a dozen more eggs, and a dinner plate of leftovers. My original fridge was a Kenmore 22 cu. ft. Due to Energy Star/more insulation, I've had to drop down to the 18 cu. ft. Amanas. I was very surprised to find the Amanas seem to hold just as much as the old Kenmore did. CONS: - That sealed compressor is very sensitive to electricity fluctuations. We seldom actually lose power, but it turns out our power is very "dirty"; e.g., we do have a lot of power fluctuations. This is what killed the first Amana bottom freezer after only 10 yrs. I SHOULD have bought an appliance surge suppressor, especially since they're not that expensive! You need to keep an eye on it, however. Once it's been tripped, it's off and useless. Most of us don't have the fridge plugged into an outlet that's easily viewed, so this is something to keep in mind. You want to be able to see if that green light has changed to red, on the suppressor. - I have the 18 cu.ft. SS model, no icemaker. The SS shows every watermark and fingerprint. Definitely needs that new "no fingerprint SS" finish, instead. ==== Overall: only two negatives, one very small. HTH some folks....See MoreHow long should a Liebherr refrigerator last?
Comments (9)makes me laugh since you point out how the thinking behind the question may be flawed. Allow me to broaden the question. I have seen web sites say that 7 or 8 cubic feet of fridge volume are plenty for a couple. This is the volume in a 24" fridge-freezer. Predicting life expectancy works best when you have a large fleet of the same things. Pooled results corresponds somewhat to the predicted results. Single devices vary a lot; there is much less correlation. So yes I agree there is something inane about thinking of a single device's future life span. Any fully integrated fridge has to get rid of condensation water by evaporating it and blowing it back into the room. (H20 condenses out of the fridge air after you let room air into it. An eternal cycle.) Is your house air dry? If so, your fridge is under less stress, permanently. This one little factor determines the mileage because X thousand days of working ten times as hard as another fridge will shorten its life expectancy. So putting a dehumidifier behind the fridge will be good for it and also good for your kitchen micro-climate if you like drier air. Fridges fight against humidity after they do the easier work of creating cold by moving heat across a few inches of space. Just for the intellectual exercise of comparing oranges to oranges, the Danish Vestfrost and the Turkish Blomberg / Arçelik are I believe the closest comparisons, and these two firms named are real factory owner-operators. In Europe just as here you will find appliances made by a factory for another company that puts its name on it. So tongue in cheek, Liebherrs will last as long as any other Danish or Turkish fridge built with the same components. HTH -david...See MoreOwn Liebherr refrigerator? How'd you like it?
Comments (15)It is a love/hate relationship. Perfect temps fridge and freezer. Love the layout...slender insides...the shelves and drawers. The drawers are brittle and i do have some cracks in the plastics. The ice maker tray has cracked and the repair kit is 120$...but just the 2 dollar tray is cracked. I just need a new tray, not a full kit. It will crack again. A re-call on the hinges took months to schedule a 'free' replacement. Seems all of NYC has one repair guy. I think mine is going on 6 yrs now. I have learned through net searching how to repair the few problems myself. Once a year it seems, i need to empty and turn off the freezer and let the tiny drain thaw...it tends to seize and freeze shut...a few hours off and help with a hair dryer thaws the drain. The fridge drain often clogs as well...about once a year. Not sure if i would buy one again. If they would sell the ice trays for five bucks, (and i would order a few), i might give them a higher mark since i know how to replace it... It is a good ice maker when it works...tiny square crystal clear cubes as it is a very cold efficient system... They were very kind and helpful on the phone under warranty...now not so much. We pulled ours out and studied how it drains and know where to point the hair dryer....no access from the inside, dumb design and such an easy design fix...and they should sell the 2 dollar ice trays as singles and i would support their efforts as a decent fridge but a bit pricy for some serious issues that occur over and over. Even when the drain clogs it still holds perfect temps...so we take our time to get around to the un-clogging. (a sheet of ice forms under the bottom lower freezer bins) When the ice tray cracks, as mentioned above, you get a solid block of ice in your ice bin. The ugly eye-sore KitchenAid that came with the house and now our garden harvest/beer cooler-overflow-fridge is in the basement works fine as a fridge should. (no ice-maker). Very unlike me to still love something with so many problems, but i've never lost any fresh or frozen foods ever. If i was not handy and a quick study of problems, i may have had some costly repairs...and the repair guy would be borrowing my hair dryer to fix something so simple.......See Morephatham
