Fish coming over the top

How can I prevent fish coming down the stream between my 3 inter-connected ponds when they are chased by amorous males?

The bottom pond is not big enough for the extra visitors, and I am concerned they will damage themselves on the slide down, also,is it stressful to net them and put them back? They vary in size between 3 and 8 inches.

I initially left the bottom pond fish-free but over the last 2 years I found quite a few baby fish which I transfer to the larger ponds when they grow to about 3 inches. I have the pump in the bottom pond which empties into the top pond and then in turn flows down to the middle and then the bottom to start again.

Would the young fish I find in the bottom pond have come down the stream as eggs or fry? I intended to keep the bottom pond fairly wild with frogs etc,but it is now a nursery for the other 2 ponds.I cannot extend the bottom pond.

Any suggestions?

Many thanks.

Ray
