list your rugosas...rugosas...stem girdler, Royal River Roses...
Comments (1)I've never seen stem girdler damage -- yet. I have a large black raspberry bed next to several of my rugosas. Sooner or later my rugosas will probably get hit too. Your posts have me thinking someday when I find the proper space for it I'll have to get Polareis......See MoreRugosa-Robusta Rose
Comments (10)I wanted to update on my Robusta. It was put in as a band from Rogue Valley Roses in 2017. It is approaching 7 ft tall and has really thrived in our Colorado climate. It is a little bit asymmetrical due to an unfortunate run in with a flame thrower on one side a couple of years ago. We also just cut the plum tree back that was encroaching on it on the fence side so it may fill in more on that side. It has bloomed non-stop through the summer but we generally don't debeetle it like the main rose bed so the blooms get munched pretty quickly. The description of Robusta on the Rogue Valley Roses web site says H6-8'. We will have to see how big she gets. https://roguevalleyroses.com/rose/robusta/ She is also cane hardy here in Colorado and needs almost no maintenance. But she is wickedly thorny so needs to be some place out of the way with room to grow. The blooms are a pretty, true red....See MoreHansa rugosa rose in zone 10b?
Comments (8)I have two rugosas coming and curious to know more about how they will do in my warm climate. Do they get as big as in their preferred cold climates or does the heat somewhat inhibit their height? Would they still get the typical rugosa fall foliage colors in zone 10-11? They probably won't go dormant so I am thinking they might just stay green all year and not get the fall foliage? Would they be happier in a part-shaded spot if they don't like the heat? If anyone here is growing them in a warm zone it would be great to learn from your experience with them!...See MoreRugosas and Species Roses
Comments (19)Perma, that is a tough question. I had this for a fungicide for a while. The leaves has brown colouring almost taking over but it is inside and nothing on the other side. It is clean on backside. I know it is not rust Bec we don't get rust in FL. I show it one rose person who never seen anything like that in his 80 yrs of life in FL. He was very baffled. He is a sweetheart :) who is also a Rosarian all his life. On Nov 4th, my friend saw the leaves and in a sec said pls get any fungicide from store and spray it it else it will die. I went same day and actually spray it taking no chances. Today, it had no sign of any thing and all very green leaves. I spray only twice . It recovers real fast and today is Nov 20th. So, in 16 days it is so green as if nothing happens. It has rusty brownish colour and very hard to describe. To be honest with you, I Google and Google and found nothing on line . Absolutely nothing !! That same day, I cut about 10 odds leaves ready to take it to extension office. I wanted to post it here but I feel like I bothering silly questions which I did not know that my rose could go to heaven. I am sorry if I confused a lot of Rosarians here but describing a fungal is extremely hard without pics..lol But I tried :) jin...See MoreRosemond
