Hi ninecrow, yep, I'm growing M.G's, I grow them every year. I always grow G. ott. because they're thoroughly reliable. I always try a new variety each year as well. Haven't tried F. S. yet. I never get much luck from Heavenly Blue. I have found that it's not too clever to grow different varieties in the same container because they all grow at slightly different speeds. They don't really seem to take off properly untilafter the summer solstice. I'm guessing that the reduced light levels encousage them to start moving. I sow 2 seeds in each pot and take out the weaker one. I let the other one establish properly before transplanting them to their final position. You have to be careful when transplanting them so as not to disturb the roots too much.(hence 1 plant per pot) Hope this helps a bit, all the best

I like Heavenly Blue ones. I tried Knowlians Black one year but they aren't as pretty. They hate the cold so I don't start them off till May. They never flower as well as I'd like them to. I grow them in a pot against a very sunny wall. Ideally, I'd like huge swags of them all over the place, but maybe England just isn't quite warm enough?.

I've grown numerous varieties. None have done well. The best display I had was indoors in March! Not warm enough and not enough sun up here, they grow and flower but never give a really strong display. Maybe they would have done better last summer, I should try them again if we keep getting hot summers.

Definitely an indoor plant for a sunny window here. Once tried one outdoors, and it never got past two cotyledons and one small leaf all summer (height, by September, 5cm).

Yeah, they can be a bit fussy. I've noticed a tendency for them to damp off when they're seedlings if the weather suddenly gets cooler. I always get a decent display even in a North-facing aspect, although those ones are a bit slower growing. However I live on the South Coast, in Hants, so the weather/light is probably more to their liking. All the best

They were ideal on a balcony. I woke up one morning and the window outside my bedroom was quite blue. I counted 53 open flowers of Heavenly Blue. This year I am trying them in the open for the first time in the 12 years since I left the flat for a house. We shall see how they do.

Wow, I'm impressed, Pineresin. However I've got a Daphne mezereum which I started from seed at least 3 years ago and is still only 5cm high. Beat that!

I've started them off in half Loo Roll tubes, they are now growing like Gang Busters!!!

Yep, I grow them outdoors but they usually are quite late into the year before they flower, perhaps because it takes so long for them to get going again after winter. They are also prone to snails.

Hi rubbleshop. When you say it takes them a little time to get going after winter, does thaat mean you grow the perrenial types? I quite fancy trying them. Allthe best

For several years now I've had very good results with a B&Q own branded morning glory seed "Blackcurrant Supreme". It's quite rampant and very pretty. I grow it in a large pot up tall canes and save some seed each year. In the summer a couple of years ago, after a mild winter, I was surprised to find it had seeded itself around where the pot had been. In fact, in warmer climates, I understand morning glory can be a real nuisance as a self-seeder.

We sell three forms of morning glories and have just pricked out the best part of three hundred of them- Grandpa Ott, Heavenly Blue and Flying Saucers. Our main problem is keeping the dam things under control before sale- we now cane them and bag them which gives us breathing space !
We have no problems getting the plants to flower however Grandpa Ott seems most reliable for us although the best seller is Heavenly Blue.
Issues we identified are compost being to rich and also cold as has been suggested. Both we found led to pale sick plants which struggled with life.
Our other top seller is purple bell vine Rodochiton which is very popular.
