Giant Sturt Desert Pea

UPDATED: From seeds I grew in the Canary Islands / Spain in July approx. 50 Sturt Desert Peas. All grew nicely, but lateron they died one by one with one exception:
One single plant survived, it grew, grew and grew.
It finally was neraly 1m high and 45cm wide. It was totally lush green, but for months without a single flower, and no signs of flowers.
But mid December 2012 it started developing several flower steems. By early January 2013 the first flowers started to develop, were already 4cm long, had the typical red color,
and then - within a few days - the whole plant died, before the flowers opened. It was really sad. What could have been the cause of this sudden death? The soil received lettle fertilizer and regular fungus treatment.
