Rudy there is a swamp rose that's native to our area that would work in wet, but roses for shade is a VERY short list. On the other hand, bayberry, arrowood viburnums, shrub dogwood, winterberry, beach plum and a host of others are all tolerant of brackish conditions and feed the birds as well. These may be a bit tall, but you could frame "windows" to the sound with the taller stuff and use low bush blueberry as the "windowsills", sheep laurel would be a good evergreen for the sills, and inkberry for the frames. I grew up in Old Lyme, and still kayak the marshes around the mouth of the Connecticut all the time, and all these plants are regulars there.

Plants I like in that situation are Sambucus, Acubas (if shady), Pieris japonica (what ever variety) Carex 'Bowles Golden', Carex 'Ice Dance' Primulas, Luzulas,Scrophularia auriculata ÂVariegata Gunnera, Iris and my favorite Armoracia rusticana. Late last summer I divided some Bergenias and put them in this spot and they have survived all the heavy wet soil over the winter. It is still wet and mucky now. Some of these plants want "some" shade others want full sun but they all tolerate wet soil, some even require it! Hi, I don't see why not, I live outside of red lion and see plenty of people with tomatoes planted. They just put tomatoe baskets over top of them if it is raining hard and at night. My tomatoes are still in the hot bed outside but I am going to plant them next week. I don't like slushing through the muddy vegetable garden. By the way you do not have an email link set up. Using garden soil in containers is not a good idea as you found out, even mixed with perlite. Best potting mix for succulents would be well draining one, that could be made easily by mixing some grit and perlite, or some of the other ingredients such as scoria, turface, pumice - whatever is available to you. Plant should be potted up into that kind of mix. Cut off any dry or damaged roots. Those 2 pots on very left seem to be very large for the plants - it is even much more important to use free draining mix in larger pots (too much soil will take much longer to dry out). Not sure which plants you are referring as 'trio' - are they plants in 2 smaller pots on lower left? Those look like they are sempervivums (aka Hens&chicks), and they grow in clumps so it isn't necessary to separate them - unless you want to plant some in different spot/container. Terrariums are not suitable to grow succulents in...they create very humid, drainless environments without air circulation. It is popularized on the net to grow succulents this way, may look very nice but certainly not good for the plants...
