first (cautionary) breakfast

gave the fish their first meal in a while this morning - not a heavy one - hoping the weather holds - they where well up for it! if you could do a fry up for fish they would have scoffed it lol steady steady o/

With the weather forecast saying daytime temperatures will be 15-18 degrees for at least the next few days, I also fed my fish this morning. They were very hungry!
I gave them low temperature food as this is easier to digest and so doesn't affect water quality too much. Also chucked in a few worms for the Sticklebacks.
I feed very little until the biological filters kick in and don't feed at all when the taddies hatch as they gorge themselves on these. Always plenty who survive and morph into frogs.
Isn't it great? The ponding season has started again.

It's lovely and warm out there today, 16 degrees at the minute and got to 19 yesterday. Gave them a small feed today after a bit of a clean up and they were very hungry. But will be carefull as its only been warm a day or two so the filters arent fully operational. The water certainly doesn't feel like it did a week or so ago!

Hopefully the two koi with carp pox will clear up nice and quickly now. It's all good!!

What a fantastic harvest! And nice job cleaning them off, too. :-) Enjoy the radish yumminess. There's an all-white (non-daikon) radish called white icicle. As already mentioned, there was possibly some cross pollination and perhaps white icicle was one of the parents.

Slug control-a cautionary tale

Sorry to hear about your plants. Hope the greenhouse can be repaired without to much difficulty. I had a problem with slugs damaging my hostas. Someone told me to try putting coffee grounds around the plants. I did. I still see slug trails in the mornings but they haven't touched my hostas in three years. I get free coffee grounds from Starbucks. They package their used grounds for gardeners and generally have them in a bin near the door. Good luck. Bernie

Yes, I am photo illiterate! I use a mac and have a mac account but it is not working so I don't have anywhere online to post pictures to link to at the moment. teddychicago - What I would do is have a sample of everything and check that what I ordered is what I got next time. I think it would have been more obvious if I had done that. I think bare wood is a little easier to spot. I know my GC sent back a number of shipments - too wet, warped etc.I could tell some of it just didn't look right myself but he actually knew it wasn't. For trim obviously straight - not warped - is important and reasonably smooth when you run your hand over it. I am sure there are professionals that could give far better insight than me - since I am here because I didn't do so great this time!

What shows you are going about this all wrong is you're honing in on the details (like where to put the dishwasher and fridge), yet you don't even have the big picture yet. I'm an artist. When I start to draw, I don't start with the eyes on the face. I first get the general placement of the figure, then rough in the lights and darks and the general overall feel. I then slowly start to refine everything and the more I refine, the more detailed I can get until finally I can start to detail the eyes, nose and mouth. A good architect will work the same way, only they'll consider the interior, the exterior and how the house sits on the land all at the same time. Not until they and their client have honed in on the overall look and feel, will they start to refine to first room sizes, then things like closets, then get into the details.
