Thanks for the reply, yeah, wasabi is a Japanese horseradish, I looked at some pics of Daikon and IÂm pretty sure its not what they were describing on the gardening show which only showed the leaves, none of the roots. The good news is my local Shoprite has a new product this week, Wasabi Sauce with ginger, really very good but of course there is no wasabi listed among the ingredients. Its one of the best "make believe" wasabi IÂve tasted.

My husband mail ordered three plants to tend over 15 years ago. One out of three survived. I have since divided the plant a couple of times and currently have three, one of which is ready to divide again. We have moved once. Both houses were dry. They've survived. All of your comments make sense. The most important factor for me is to keep them where I see them everyday so that I water them before they wilt. They are in low light. Our Japanese friend said not to harvest the root until they blossom. I have (for the most part) kept them alive with frequent watering, breaking off dry leaves and using them back in the pot, but they have never blossomed. I have not used bonsai soil. After reading all of your comments, I'm wondering if they would be good plants for a terrarium or open fish bowl? Are your pots deep pots or shallow pots?

I am told that BT will do it. I had an infestation of them on my collards this year, and have started using BT. BT works on caterpillars. Very well, I understand. Spray every week. More often if it rains. Harmless to humans and beneficial insects. I should note that collard leaves are not very "wettable". They shed spray in big droplets, and it's hard to get a spray to coat well. One approach is to add something to the spray that will make it cling better. A few drops of dishwashing detergent should do that. Yes, egg clusters are on the bottom sides of leaves. The life cycle of these things is pretty short, so in a month or so, they'll all be gone.
