Help identifying a plant

my daughter found this plant in our back yard this morning and is very exited that she has discovered a NEW plant. Now i'm pretty sure it's not a NEW plant but both I and my daughter would be interested if anyone could identify it. Looks like some kind of strawberry to me. don't panic! my daughter and i will not eat it!

It's an "Indian Strawberry, a "False Strawberry" or a "Mock Strawberry" - (take your pick) - Botanical name: Potentilla indica (formerly Duchesnea indica) - a native of South East Asia - used as an ornamental plant in days gone by ... like most weeds in our gardens. When I was a kid my Dad told me not to eat it so I never did but I understand it is edible but bland.

Hi guys

It is edible but as tonyw says, somewhat bland. It appeared in my garden, and it took me 3 years to eliminate it by repeatedly pulling it out. A real pain!

The A/C is almost always running! My plants don’t seem to mind too much haha. I have 2 grow light bulbs, but may have to invest in a gro light stand or two as the weather gets cooler. Right now the tropicals are sitting on a coffee table facing a window with bright sunlight and they are mostly doing well.

What makes you doubt Pecan? If there are lots, you could dig a young one up and see what kind of nut is on the bottom.

A nuisance and a time waster.
Remove it quickly as it has no value or application as it is colorful and bright but completely useless.
