Can someone please help identify this plant/shrub/tree?

Found this little fella growing in a small secluded area of my backyard, in between the (border) stones.The branches seemed kinda thick for a weed, so I figured it could be a tree (perhaps), which nature planted in the oddest of places, so I dug it up & planted it in a more open area in my backyard.

There are so many varieties. It is impossible to tell by foliage alone. Peonies have been popular for a long time. Once it blooms, it might be identifiable if it is a popular cultivar. Remy

We can see just enough to tell this identification is probably correct but if you send any other subjects later note that much closer views are often required for reliable results. Also I will mention that pink forms of star magnolia and the Loebner magnolia selection 'Leonard Messel' can look very similar without close comparative inspection.
