Boabs near Brisbane

Could you help me find boabs withing 2hrs drive of Brisbane.

I have none for sale, mine in pots are still dormant at the moments- so are the one in the ground.
You can buy seed from ebay.
Otherwise Im no help to you.

Thanx I want no more than to take pictures.
So if the are in parks or gardens o the middle of paddocks any where I can get to is ok.

Hi M, I am pretty sure that unless you have a specific permit, you won't be able to leave australia with anything of the plant variety. Customs laws here in australia are very strict and for good reason too! Good luck with your search though. Cheers, Mel...

brisbane: herb garden or pots?

I live in Brisbane, and I have an all-herb garden. The herbs LOVE it! There are some I keep in pots either because they have a yearning for world domination (mints) or because they'd get too big if planted in the garden (cardamom) or because they have weed tendency (feverfew), or because they prefer a little shade (mints again). The Mediterranean herbs like rosemary, basil, sage, thyme etc really do well here - just give them good drainage in case we get our much-needed summer tropical rains back again! You don't say where you're coming from, but if from a somewhat cooler climate, I suggest leaving the plants in their pots for now, and let them acclimatise for a while, then perhaps plant some out in autumn, or else wait until next spring. Most plants are much happier in the garden than in pots, and potted plants are really high maintenance, remember. You'll need to water them more often while they're in pots - an issue in SE Qld with water restrictions - currently Level 4 in Brisbane ie buckets only, on alternate days except Mondays.

Organic Rose Culture in Brisbane Area

Thank you very much to all the responders to my questions :-))) My question really revolved around *making the roses resist diseases and pests* rather than actual treatments. That's my understanding of the philosophy behind "organic" gardening. I'm aware that everything is a chemical and it's not a term I use in the context that some people use "chemical" and "non-chemical" - as though something could be a "non-chemical"! It wouldn't be anything at all! Regardless, it was an interesting exercise and I am grateful to the folk who answered - I was not able to answer personally as no email addresses are available. I'm still at the beginning of my quest for some cultural changes I could make to help the roses *resist* disease and pests. I have squashed regiments of aphids and have heard of the milk spray - regardless of the benign nature of these treatments, they are still *treatments* and not ways to make the roses intrinsically healthier which is what I still want to do. Yes.. There is a Rose Garden at New Farm Park.. Sadly Qld does not have that many Rose Nurseries now as many closed down in the drought a few years back.. There are no rose nurseries in Brisbane itself you have to go out a bit to the west to find any, towards Toowoomba way. I don't think boabs grow near brisbane do they? I thought they were from the north (places like the kimberley).

not natively I think you are correct
but there are some in the botanical gardens at mt cootha
I'm looking for more examples.
I guess bottle trees may do as a second choice.

Hi BH,
you can see them at Roma Street Parklands, go by train to Roma St Platforms and go downstairs, turn left and follow tunnel past No. 10 platform and follow back upstairs to Parklands and then take the walkway to upper part of Parklands near College Road enterance. There are 10/12 different size trees there, near the Kangaroo Paw gardens.They came from Chinchilla, which is more than 2 hours drive from Brisbane. Steve Parish has a boab's in some of his books. Boabs dont grow near Chinchilla, thus the ones at Roma Parklands are Brachychiton rupestris aka Bottle Trees.

NathanHurst, you are correct Boabs are native to far NW WA, and seem to have made their way there from seeds floating across the Indian Ocean from Madagascar and Africa, only 1 species occurs in Africa, the rest are from Madagascar, and we have 1.

My two arent photogenic and I would be surprised if you can find a nice big one in the Brisbane area, but I could be wrong!
Ive seen 1 in Mareeba NQ and an A. digitalis there too.
