Roses near Brisbane

I'm visiting relatives in Brisbane for Christmas and want to see rose gardens, preferably teas, noisettes and OGR's. Seems that all the great places are in the west or south sides of the country. Is there anyplace I can go? What about New Farm? Also any great nurseries that are must see in QLD?

I live in N.S.W. but I am now a member of the Heritage Rose Society, and this year Queensland is taking their turn of publishing their journel.

Thank you, yes, I would be very grateful for any information you might find. I know that they are holding their next conference in Brisbane, hopefully they also can grow roses there.

Fungicides can be used on clematis also to prevent mildew so I don't think there should be a problem. Check the label of your specific variety of fungicide and see what it may say and like BorS said, follow the directions as far as concentration.

I am building a picket fence with a pegola over the gate, and of course I just have to complete it with a climbing rose. I am looking for one suitable for the Brisbane climate in mid to pale pink and thornless if possible. Any suggestions and any tips for growing in this climate would be greatly appreciated.

You might be thinking of lighter colored flowers attracting (and showing the damage of) flower thrips more readily than darker colored flowers. The thrips suck the juice from the petals and make them dry out and brown around the edges. For the thrips, the "blue cup method" discussed here several years ago works quite well without resorting to highly toxic, systemic pesticides. If the actual heat and direct sun are issues, providing them some shade during the hottest parts of the day is very effective. It's probably safe to suggest that in many places in the US where roses can be successfully grown, they honestly don't require more than probably six hours of direct sun a day and in the hotter areas, probably much less. Providing them with morning sun and dappled or even full shade when the sun is its hottest, will prevent them from frying as quickly. Yes.. There is a Rose Garden at New Farm Park.. Sadly Qld does not have that many Rose Nurseries now as many closed down in the drought a few years back..

There are no rose nurseries in Brisbane itself you have to go out a bit to the west to find any, towards Toowoomba way. There is Barton Rose farm and Maxine's Mainly Roses both a hours drive west of Brisbane not even sure if they have the type of roses you are after.. http://www.mmroses.com.au/
