Australian Native Plants

Please help I.D. this tree

Hi there, could anyone please identify what type of tree this is? I have a feeling it may be a native, although looking at photos I cant find anything close except for Gravillias. These trees don't seem to have any flowers though. I often see them at train station car parks around south eastern Melbourne. Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

It's a Pepper Tree. A weed in a lot of places.

Despite the bad reputation, I've had this growing for 20 yrs and it's never self-seeded and I've never seen birds in my area even faintly interested in the seeds. It's nothing like the weed that the "Brazilian Pepper Tree" is - Schinus terebinthifolius. shudder

A Hypericum I would say. Can't tell you which one without some idea of habit and size. Candidates might be H calycinum or H patulum. It might also be a seedling from a hybrid like 'Hidcote' in which case it may not have a name.

I want to know too! Fwiw, before Google, a botanist at Pearl City at extension service told me it was gumi or goumi, a Japanese ornamental. Now that I search on that name, gumi looks nothing like this plant. Good thing I cut it down and yanked the root from my garden back then!
