Tree ID needed - Conifer?

We will be removing our messy mango and require something more evergreen. These pictures are of a tree in our neigbour's yard. They don't know what it is specifically and I was hoping someone out there may know. Thank you, Kristy

Hi, its an Araucaria , its hard to tell which one. Same family as the famous wollemi pine - it may be a bunya pine, monkey puzzle tree or a hoop pine. Beautiful big trees - if a bit prickly.

with all your generalities.. its hard to compare ... but one might suggest.. its an age thing ... e.g. if you are comparing a 10 year old.. to a 30 year old ... then bark could be a different color if you look at a branch end... you will see that this years growth has green bark ... well its green .. further back is last year growth.. and it is probably brown... and if you keep tracing back you can see each years growth.. and how the bark has changed color as it ages ... by the time you get to the main trunk ... its as old as the tree ... BTW .. i applaud interest for knowledge sake .. lol.. too many peeps who pop into GW.. think there is something wrong.. and have already sprayed the bark with 3 different chems.. BEFORE they ask ... lol .. thats what triggered my initial question ... ken

Will, your 3th 'Piccolo' is the true form, the other 2 are not. It looks to me that your first 'Piccolo' and second false 'Piccolo' are the Abies fraseri 'Fastigiata Compacta'. Your Abies fraseri 'Fastigiata Compacta' doesn't show a fastigiate growth at all so I presume that it isn't this cultivar but one of the many witches' brooms found of this species. The Abies nordmanniana 'Trautmann' doesn't seem to be an Abies nordmanniana at all. I hope Clement or Resin can help you out with the cone you're showing us... The Abies nordmanniana 'Pendula' isn't right, it looks like a cross between Abies grandis and Abies nordmanniana weeping form, maybe it's a true Abies grandis weeping form. Will, why don't you stake this one, maybe then it's more clear to see to which species it belongs... Your Picea mariana 'Fastigiata' is a columnar form of Picea abies, it's the 'Cupressina' or the 'Columnaris'. I hope I helped you a bit with my info. It's a big pitty that the seller sold you conifers under the wrong name, I can't understand why they are doing this. Maybe you can trace back some stocklists of these sellers so you can find out which other one's are possible?
