I'm not sure if this is the reason, but potassium permanganate in bulk quantities requires special storage conditions under the Dangerous Goods Act (section 5). This may be why your chemist (and perhaps others) don't stock it anymore. It wouldn't hurt to check with another chemist. There are other products available for control of lawn grubs. I don't know how effective they are though. It seems to be a tricky problem. The best form of control seems to be chooks or magpies. You may possibly be able to order some on line. Have you tried any nurseries?

Thanks deejaus - The birds are doing a great job but whilst getting the grubs they are digging up and destroying my lawn. Otherwise I would leave them to it. I have been looking on websites to order the CC but no luck yet. Someone has just emailed me and offered to send me a little so thats a start. My country town only has 1 chemist so I will try in Melbourne if I can get there soon. Thanks for your response. Cheers.

Potassium permanganate is a very powerful oxidant and I'm not sure it should be sent in the mail.

Lomatia has a good point there. Because it is listed under the Dangerous Goods act it is probably illegal to post it.

I saw one packet in a produce store today but wasn't able to ask *the knowledgeable one* whether there is now some difficulty in obtaining it. The packet was well labelled wrt adverse effects.

You might like to try asking a bowling club with outdoor grass greens (the real stuff, not fake grass!), as it is/was used extensively to rid the greens of bugs and stuff to keep the greens super smooth.

I just bought a 50g bottle from chemist warehouse ive never used it before so not sure how much i will need but in order to flush the soil in this particular pot im going to need about 6 buckets and make it a dark pink colour. Apparently you add enough condes to the water to a certain color depending on the type of plant. Im thinking im going to beed to go to a rural supplier to get a bigger amount. Regards Jackie

Back in the 70’s I made cane baskets that I stained a nice dark brown by soaking in a stong CC solution. It is a good disinfectant, and used to treat ecezma you just add a small amount until water is purple. Also good to take into snowy regions, you can sprinkle it onto snow to write SOS in an emergency. I think it was also used in glass houses, may be available through an Ag supply

You only need a tiny amount for medical use, a large teaspoon even will be enough for a lifetime for bathing eyes , sores on skin, great in baths for Chicken Pox , ideal for serialising water with almost no colouring to drink when out traveling , or in a weak pink colour to gargle for sore throats.

One tiny bottle should last two families for a lifetime, it's like it's own medical cabinet, great for poor families, or country people. Always use it pale pink for sensitive areas like on face , nose or eyes.

I put some in a tiny plastic container with a pierced hole on the lid, and shake a few crystals into water wait five minutes till all crystals have dissolved to see the proper colour.

Why would anyone waste CC for the garden, it too precious.
