Where to sell Lenox crystal?

Going through my way-too-crowded cabinets (heck, my way-too-crowded HOUSE) in my redecorating / simplifying mission, I decided I really donÂt need the Lenox crystal I received as a wedding gift. IÂve probably used it twice. (In my defense, I did not register for this design! A group of relatives decided on this pattern on their own. That was always kind of the way they did things. ) On the rare occasion when I use my good china I will use my momÂs crystal, which is much nicer. (She actually picked hers!)

I have 12 wine glasses and 12 water goblets. Unfortunately they are blue. (my dishes are white with blue roses). These were quite expensive and I know I wonÂt get a fraction of what they originally cost 28 years ago; unless they are collectable and IÂm clueless about that. I was shocked when my Mom told me what her relatives had paid, they donÂt look at all like they would have been worth that much.

Do people buy crystal on CraigÂs List? Ebay? Packing it for E-bay would be a pain; I donÂt know how the pros ship crystal. I sometimes see a display of crystal at a few resale shops I go to (which have mostly clothes) but I donÂt know if they really move any. Thanks!

Do you have any kids to give them to? That's what I'd do since family bought it.

I know Ebay sells a lot of crystal and there are always people bidding. They even have a "Buy Now" section where there's no bidding, and you set the price.

I'm like you, I have a lot of crystal, but it's from my mom when she got married and I have NO idea what to do with it when the remodel is done. But I can't get rid of it, and the grown kids aren't into crystal just yet.

You can sell it to Replacements, but they won't give you the best price. (Figure about 1/2 of what they sell it for, maybe a little more if it's a rare pattern.) Ebay is one way, local consignment shops are another.

I think keeping it for the kids isn't worth it. They might have completely different tastes (I sure wouldn't want my mother's), and you still have to store it, etc.

Now you get to the hard questions! At first I measured it carefully but after 10 pots or so I got to where it as 'a big handful..and then some for the 15 gallons, less for smaller ones. I think it was 1 or 2 tablespoons for the smallest ones (12") I know, not much help! I also did not soak in water first so I learned really quickly to mix in with the bottom 1/2 to 2/3 soil, then straight soil on top. First good rain and the pots were covered with 'glistening diamonds'. Very pretty but not what I was going for. You can also use on existing plantings. I used one of those skinny green bamboo stakes to poke a hole down to the bottom, put in some crystals, then used the pole to shove dirt back in. Do this 3 or 4 times per pot -- I think they give directions. I'm usually not that clever by myself so I'm thinking they must have told how to do it.

Glad you found it so quickly.... Tell him that the price showing on replacements is about 3 times what he can sell it for...unless he sells to a private collector. It's beautiful china! Linda C

I hang them from lampshades, from my Battenburg lace curtains, the Christmas tree, flower swags, vases, etc. Even indoor potted plants get a crystal or two. You can make great outdoor, tin can luminaries and hang crystals from them. These look great hanging from tree limbs, arbors, lantern hooks, etc. They catch sunlight during the day and sparkle in the candlelight at night. You could even hang the entire fixture over an outside table on a porch, gazebo, etc. I'm also in the process of making long strings of lavender beads to hang on the material swagged around a garden tub. I'll end each string with a crystal.The only thing I haven't hung them on is myself--but I've been tempted! :)

Local quality auctions? Google the manufacturer and see who's selling it, and what sort of prices it's getting. I'm looking for a quality dinner set in Spode or Wedgwood, or similar, and the prices are all over the place depending on desirability. Did you try Craigslist? Stick a high price on it and see what happens ...

Thanks! I will run it by the kids but I donÂt see them being interested in these. Anyway I have my MomÂs and my GrandmaÂs, both nicer, to divide up if they should be interested someday (2 kids, should work out! Though they are 18 and 21: it might be a long wait).

Thanks for the Replacements site. Now I know the name of my pattern, "Antique", and know what they sell it for. Also found out my "wine" glasses are not really wine glasses, but champagne/sherbet glasses. Good for marketing!
