How do I make a Teepee??

I'm wanting to make a Teepee for my peas and was wondering if anyone had any instructions on how to do so?

Actually, I'm not sure if my peas need to climb as I think they may be a low growing type LOL but I will definitely need it when planting beans.

I've also heard you can plant cucumbers/pumpkins on trellis set-ups. Has anyone tried this?? If so, some instructions would be greatly appreciated :D

Teepee? just use any number of sticks/poles all the same length, 1.5 to 2 metres, ( and same diameter, approx.) Starting with 2, cross them about 30 cm from the top end and bind with synthetic cord ( modern "hayband " is fine..) Them add 2 more to make a self supporting tapered frame.. continue to add until the poles are between 20 -30 cm apart near the base.. don't overdo it.. you can alter the design later.
Push the lower ends into the soil far enough so the whole frame doesnt move.

I don't think pumpkins or cukes are appropriate for this sort of support but certainly climbing peas and beans will be very happy to cover it.

If you want to have pumpkins on a trellis it only needs to be low.. but they will climb great heights if they want.. but at the cost of the crop. For a couple of years I let mine wend their merry way up through a large, dense lemon tree but the fruit was only average sized. I have today just made a 1.5 metre high wire mesh trellis along 2 sections of our colourbond fence for just the sole purpose of growing small pumpkins ( Butternuts are great..very prolific, heaps of punks and they store really well..) as well as rock melons, watermelons and various cucumbers. all of these do not roam far from the plant but they do like their owbn share of sunshine, hence the vertical support. They will also mix in well together although the butternuts have large leaves so best given their own section. Last summer I planted Lebanese cucumbers at the foot of my bean trellis and guided them up it a bit , with some twine,( growth was not more than half a metre) and was rewarded with a constant, fast growing crop far better than ever before.
On the subject of trellis.. We had a 2100 litre (5000 gal) plastic tank installed a couple of years back ( to supplement our drought restricted mains water) and a year ago I decided to run 100mm square wire mesh all the way around it, using pine decking boards to keep it away from the tank and just wired the whole thing in place without screwing into the tank at all.. I planted several types of berry vines around it and they have flourished.. It was a chance sowing of some rockies at the base that showed me how well they ( and water melons) love the full exposure to the sun.. I never thought I could grow these succesfully in central Victoria.

I'm actually dealing with it today. It's been a big disappointment. I have planted green beans twice and have only had one sprout. When I investigate the dirt, I can't even find a single bean. I have never had trouble sprouting beans before. So today I am digging morning glories from my neighbor who has tons of them, and turning it into a morning glory T-pee! I had my first harvest of sugar peas last night. My daughter and I shared a big handful. They were delicious! ~Cat

For the cost of the project, you may not end up having doors or door knobs. You are building a whole second house on top of the existing. Which costs as much as a second house. This is not always the case. Our first home was a 3BR/2BA 1956 ranch on a large corner lot. We had three children, and looked for another house. Since we had stairs to the attic (which you had to stay bent over to walk around in), we added a partial second story. It was way less than moving - building or buying. Home became a 4BR/3.5BA. I also dislike split finishes. In our last home (huge remodel), we left the door hardware (satin finish nickel Baldwin levers and hinges) and used unlacquered brass in most of the bathrooms and kitchen. Usually, and previously in a custom build, everything was the same. I thought mixed finishes might bother me, but I never gave them a second thought.

I'm in London. Reception rooms are the same as a living room, although we tend not to call both rooms "living rooms". We'd typically call the one at the front the "front room" and then the one at the back the "reception", "living room" or "sitting room". To be fair, they also get called different things if you're from the north of England compared to the south. To me, a yard doesn't have grass, eg my mum's house with no grass I call a "backyard", which is also a more northern phrase! Thinking about it, I think northern people have more in common with US English e.g. in the north, we call trousers "pants", whereas in London that definitely means knickers! (So when I first moved here and I said I was going to wear pants, I definitely got some funny looks). I was going to make the small bedroom a study as I work from home and lot, but as a general point, laundry rooms/ machines upstairs is very unusual in the UK (although I can see the logic).

I am back with pictures, which I will post separately from my phone after I type this message. I wanted to add that when the plants come out in the spring, they look just fine, as they are now in the pictures below. No complaints at this stage. The trouble is that by the time they reach summer, the leaves turn yellow-ish and the bloom is minimal, on one, two stems max, but usually just one and stunted. The plant looks like it quits growing and stays pretty close to the ground. Clearly not thriving like in Spring. My suspicion is that despite being a drought tolerant plant, it is not getting enough water, as I basically almost never watered it, only what it gots from the rain. It may struggle too much in that sun. The soil is GA clay, just as SYinUSA showed, and it probably gets brick hard on these poor plants but I am not sure. The only other explanation I have is that whatever fertilizer transfers from the roses they don't like and turn yellow. I just don't think a bit of fertilizer would do that. Unfortunately, I do not have pictures of them in distress from the summer.
