(he of "Rumpole of the Bailey" and other creations. and did you know that as a member of the British bar he once represented the Sex Pistols, whose first album was deemed obscene by the British gov't? one of quite a few free-speech cases he handled.)

I just saw the obit in the NY Times Book Review online, to be published this Sunday. What a true English character he was. They could not have invented him. I loved the TV series but the reality of the man was even more remarkable. With men like this, there will indeed always be an England. I will certainly have to read his biography.

I am sad to hear this. But like Agatha Christie and Hercule Poirot, we will always have a bit of Mortimer because Horace lives on.
I remember the day I found the newly published story of the Penge Bungalow Murders on the library shelf. That oft-referenced but never explained crime and trial that was the "making" of Horace. I whooped out loud, turning heads three stacks away.

Cleaned and checked the vent cap, it is working fine. But did take the cap off and tried to start it, didn't help. Replaced the fuel filter two months ago, thinking that would be the issue, but still having same problem. Checked and getting plenty of fuel to the carb. Doesn't matter how long I leave it sit, it still cranks but won't start, and once I do get it started it mows fine for about 10 minutes and then just dies. No spit, sputter, just dies. I have flooded it a couple of times trying to start it. I have taken the filter off and tried to start it, that didn't help.

Vapor lock will not occur WHILE an engine is running.Vapor lock occurs when an engine is shut down in a very hot condition and heat from the engine cause a portion of the gasoline in fuel line and fuel pump to vaporize. The heated vapor exerts more pressure than the fuel pump can deal with and so the pump can't work, until things cool off and the gasoline vapors return to liquid. You can test the fuel cap idea by removing the cap when the engine begins to falter. If it straightens out the running, the cap vent is the trouble. If not, then it may be ignition related.

Thanks Luanne. I haven't posted here in forcver as well, but I know there are those who might only see this here. His ARF name was John3560, and he was smart, funny, and kind. What more can anyone say...oh, yeah, his roses and that raised arts and crafts bed that he constructed were incredible. Nerm, I was glad to see you got this because I didn't know if you ever surfed here anymore. Luanne and Carol got to meet Mr. Murphy, and I kick myself for not making the drive up when I could have. Just another reminder to seize the day and try to get together with people with whom you form bonds in cyberspace, because more often than not, it will be amazing. Rose-that is how I started-like Wodehouse, the reading of Mortimer is enhanced if you watched the dramatizations, because you can "hear" the characters-and they were all cast so perfectly.
