Cleaned and checked the vent cap, it is working fine. But did take the cap off and tried to start it, didn't help. Replaced the fuel filter two months ago, thinking that would be the issue, but still having same problem. Checked and getting plenty of fuel to the carb. Doesn't matter how long I leave it sit, it still cranks but won't start, and once I do get it started it mows fine for about 10 minutes and then just dies. No spit, sputter, just dies. I have flooded it a couple of times trying to start it. I have taken the filter off and tried to start it, that didn't help.

First make sure the PTO switch is turned off. Make sure you are pushing the brake when you try to start up. My next best guess is a bad seat safety switch or the seat switch has worked loose from the seat. In short, something happened to turn everything off. Not many things can do all that, but a seat switch can. If the tractor does not know you are in the seat, nothing will work at all. Of course a dead battery will do that too, or a bad battery cable. I just saw the obit in the NY Times Book Review online, to be published this Sunday. What a true English character he was. They could not have invented him. I loved the TV series but the reality of the man was even more remarkable. With men like this, there will indeed always be an England. I will certainly have to read his biography.
