A question about Hollyhocks

User

I was given some Hollyhock seeds last December which I planted some came up and the seedlings I planted in the garden bed in February, they are coming along fine and thickened up and the main stem has a flowerhead on it. Only problem is the plants are only 45-60cms tall now I remember pics on the Oz Gallery last year where the hollyhocks were bending over because they hit the eaves of a house so they would have to be over 2400cms tall to do that. They were grown in NSW and Vic.

Is it because Iam growing them in full sun , are there any other Queenslanders growing these plants as I feel I have done something wrong with them being so small, I have never grown them before but do know that the green caterpillar adores them, when in the Spring do they flower as today is 30 degrees is that too hot for them, should I have planted them in the shade, and will the flowerhead stems get taller would love to know, so looking forward to some help...Cheers..MM.
