Your Favorite Can't Wait To See What Happens Next Books

You know, the kind that keep you guessing and you just can't put it down until the end? I must be jaded because it seems hard to find one that holds my interest lately...I like thrillers and English mysteries the best. Does anyone have any recommendations? Some all time favorites of mine that you may not have read are:

A Glimpse of Stocking by Elizabeth Gage

By Reason of Insanity by Shane Stevens

Chiefs by Stuart Woods

Dirty White Boys by Stephen Hunter(suspenseful and very funny, too!)

F2F by Phillip Finch

From the Corner of His Eye by Dean Koontz

Intensity by Dean Koontz

Line of Vision by David Ellis

Retribution by Jilliane Hoffman(a very scary debut novel!)

Salem's Lot by Stephen King

Tell No One by Harlan Coben

The Genesis Code by John Case

The Shining by Stephen King

The Silence of the Lambs by Thomas Harris(liked all of his books...can't wait to read the new one coming out.)

The Thorn Birds by Colleen McCullough(read x 3)

Cynthia Harrod-Eagles writes a great English mystery series with Inspector Bill Slider-the 1st one is Orchestrated Death.
Lee Child writes great suspense/thrillers with his recurring main character Jack Reacher-the 1st one is called Killing Floor.
I also enjoy the Daniel Silva Books, Harlan Coben, Michael Connelly, Nelson DeMille, Dennis LeHane....and many more!

Thanks, Pat! I hadn't heard of Cynthia Harrod-Eagles...I will give her a try as well as the others. I do like Michael Connelly and Harlan Coben. Have you read any of Margaret Yorke? She wrote some very cozy English mysteries...lots of tea and digestive bisquits.

ullis - it's The Shadow of the Wind. I gave Joan Didion's book to my mom for Xmas, and was very happy to see that both my parents are reading it now. My father, who doesn't read, is 100 pages into it. He went to see King Kong in the afternoon on his birthday last week (my mom was working and in any case was not interested in that movie), and while he found it novel to be at the movies by himself, because he was reading that book he found himself wondering about life without my mom, and how he would feel, and I actually think this book is bringing them closer. They have been empty nesters for a year now, and there have been some rocky times as they are still learning to relate to each other without mediators........................................................................ I also gave my mom Oprah's 50th anniversary DVD, and there are some very moving interviews on that (with Nelson Mandela, for instance).

Nice purple seedling Debra. Pistil length looks short, so it should be nice and fertile. My yellow is in a pot here, so scape height was not as good as it was in Texas. There it was around 28". Expect they will be higher here when I get it in the ground. Colors were much brighter up here with the cooler temps, which was nice. Bloom is over 6". Thanks Signet, glad you like it.

I don't think most of mine start next month, but: Homeland The Affair The Americans Rectify Billions: this one is not my favorite as I can't stand most of the actors, but I am loyal to Damian Lewis who I loved in Homeland and in The Forsyte Saga, so I will watch it. Bloodline The Fall (BBC) Gee, just typing that list out made me eager. I just rewatched all of Homeland to prepare for the next season and heard today it won't start until January :(

Karen I haven't heard of her. I tend to read more 'thrillers' and I admit I get most of my recommendations from another forum that I participate in that is just for Mysteries & Thrillers.
Authors such as Brian Haig and Steven Hartov and Thomas Cook...I would have to refer back to my Book Log but I have enjoyed all those recommendations.
I use The Fantasic Fiction web site or "Stop Your Killing Me" for the lists of titles by the authors in the order written which I prefer when the author has a recurring main character.

Sherwood38, would you mind sharing that other forum regarding mysteries and thrillers? I love to dig around for a good one now and then!

I've read about half of what's on your list and think you might like Martin Cruz Smith. He's one of my favorites for mysteries.
I particularly liked Stuart Woods Chief but his other books are good too. Allen Folsom's The Day after Tomorrow would fit in with your choices and is a real page turner to the very end.
James Lee Burkes Dave Robicheaux books are excellent and well written. If you haven't read any of his, start with the earliest to keep the sequence, however, I can't remember the title.

Crazydogs-I am a paying member of the Delphi webs and participate in several forums there including the one named Mysteries & Thrillers. I don't think you have to be a paying member though and I know they always welcome newbies!

Although Martha Grimes is well-known for her mysteries, I just read her Foul Matter, and loved it, ridiculous as it was. Had to read it at one sitting to see how it would be resolved.

Phyllis-that book was hysterical-I did the same thing!

I just finished Shadow Divers non-fiction about the discovery about 20 years ago of a U-boat sunk off the coast of New Jersey, where none should have been. Very gripping.
