WANTED: Pomegranate

Hi

I well remember as a child the fun of eating the Pomegranate, I think that's how its spelt. Well, I think it strange that most children of today do not know them,let alone have experienced this unusual fruit.

I would dearly like to let my kids lose on a few. (and maybe relive a small part of my past)

Any suggestions please where I might obtain some?

what a shame you didnt post this a month ago before I cut all the fruit off my tree! If I get any more fruit forming I can save some seed for you.

seonau - you can buy them at the market. I'm going tonight I'll look out for you and if I see any I'll post again and let you know.

My friend has a tree in her back yard in Adelaide. They aren't quite ready yet, but if you're still stuck post here again or send me an email. I'll send some your way!

Cheffie, Maybe you're wanting to experiment a little, but, if that's not your goal, you'd be MUCH better off with cuttings. Pomegranate cultivars (not really varieties, technically) do not come true-to-type, so getting seeds from hardy cultivars doesn't mean that you will get hardy seedlings (and most poms don't really do well in zone 6/7). Much research has gone into choosing hardy cultivars, and those cultivars would be a better choice for reliability. Also, pomegranate cuttings are very easy to root. Now would be a good time to get cuttings, but if you don't find someone and still want them, you could try the USDA's GRIN/NPGS program next year. Orders received by December 1 are shipped sometime around February. Check the Fruit and Orchards Forum for hardy pomegranate cultivars if you are not familiar with which ones do best in colder areas. BTW, production is probably even more of a limiting factor than hardiness in colder areas. Some cultivars are reliably hardy but won't produce fruit without long, hot summers.

I can send cutting of Wonderful Pomegranate. I have 5 with lots of suckers I have not had the time to remove, they are pencil and down in size from last seasons growth. I would like to trade you for live Spanish moss. The last time I was in FL. It was everywhere. I need it for my greenhouse and all that is available is the dry dead packages. I'll pay for extra shipping as I'd love a large amount and only think it would be right since there will be a big weight difference. Thank you Greg(ca. 10/11)
