pidge, I started another thread with info regarding sleep apnea and CPAP. Seems like I hijacked your movie season thread. LOL Like your friend, I feel the CPAP device is a real pain in the yang but it beats having a stroke or heart attack during sleep. During my testing in the hospital I stopped breathing 32 times an hour. An apnea episode has to be no breathing for a minimum of 10 seconds. Among other symptoms, many times I would wake up with my head feeling like it was about to explode...SEVERE headache. The sleep doctor said it was due to lack of oxygen. Many sleep apnea sufferers have strokes and heart attacks during sleep due to lack of oxygen. Oh, yeah...I told ya. My fingers don't know when to shut up. Now, I'll go to the new thread. It is boring reading but I hope it can enlighten someone who may suffer from this or have a loved one that may.

I used the Menard's 54" heavy duty cages which look to be as strong or stronger than the ones you are using. Since my EarthTainers sit close to my yard I simply stuck the cages into the containers and drove a 2" x 2" x 8' wooden stake 12" into the ground right next to the tainers and the cages. I tied the cages off to the 8' stake very tight and that was it. As one of the other posters stated, the weight of the EarthTainers is well over 100lbs, so I wasn't worried about the containers going anywhere. As for proof of how sturdy the whole set-up would be in a strong wind, I have the proof. About 3 weeks ago a very strong storm that spawned a CAT 3 tornado touched down about 2 miles from my house. Winds were so strong in my neighborhood that the top third of a tree was blown off in one neighbors yard. And the other neighbor had a few very large branches blown off of his trees. While I also had some branches blown off, my EarthTainers never moved and the cages are still strapped to the stakes as tight as the day I built them. Wind gusts were said to be at least +60mph.

Just to follow up on some of the posts . . . kitchendetective - touche! justgotabeme - the "garage" is actually a separate pavilion next to the main house. It is also a glass box, and apparently has been staged as some sort of classic auto showroom with a lounge area. As for the issue of windows and privacy -- take a look again at the photos. There are matching, unobtrusive pinch-pleat draperies throughout the house (I love how the hardware is concealed by the ceiling in the living room). I've attached a link to some additional photos so you can see that the draperies really are in almost every room. This particular house sits on a wooded acre, so there is definitely an element of privacy. And that's where the glass boxes are -- on secluded lots. In neighborhoods and tract developments, designs like Eichler built were far more common. As Pal mentioned, the street and public facades on those are more protected, while the houses open up to the rear or to an internal courtyard/atrium. Our half-glass box sits in the middle of three acres. We've been here about four years and I can say that the glass --the exposure, the openness -- is something you get used to quickly, and then becomes something you miss when you're somewhere more enclosed. We have linen sheers on the windows in the bedrooms, but no window dressings of any kind in the main room. I find it distracting. I expect the author to have a certain amount of credibility and consistency, even if it is fiction. The number one rule of writing is to be aware of your audience. Getting some details wrong shows a lack of awareness of your audience. The author should know the reader will be distracted by those sorts of errors, and that, as a narrator, some credibility will be lost. Also, the setting is a part of the story that should enhance the story. The author should choose it for a purpose in their overall creation. If accuracy of description doesn't matter, it's like saying an entire chuck of the story (setting) doesn't even matter. The author might as well say, "It doesn't matter where my story is set, pay no attention to that." In a good book, it should all come together, setting, plot, character, etc. But, the world will go on. I just won't be likely to ever pick up anything by that author again. The quality of a book I read probably matters a little more than it should to my life. It definitely matters more to me than to most people I know. ;o)
