I was so excited when I found this recipe. When we lived in Dunedin we had a favorite little Chinese restaurant. This is what I ordered every time. I sure hope this tastes like the restaurant version! WOR SU GAI (CD Kitchen) 2 whole chicken breasts, skinned, boned, and cut in half 1/2 tsp. salt 1 Tbsp.dry sherry Sauce: 4 Tbsp. cornstarch 3 Tbsp. water 3 c. broth 1 1/2 c. chopped mushrooms (optional) 3 Tbsp. chicken fat or butter 2 tsp. soy sauce 3 Tbsp. chicken bouillon granules Batter: 3 Tbsp. cornstarch 3 Tbsp. flour 1/2 tsp. baking powder 1 egg, beaten 1 Tbsp. water ********* 1 c. shredded lettuce 1/3 c. toasted, slivered almonds 1 green onion, finely chopped (green and white parts) Oil for deep-frying Sprinkle chicken with salt and sherry and marinate for 15 minutes. While chicken is marinating, prepare the sauce. Mix together the cornstarch and water in a small saucepan until smooth. Gradually mix in the chicken broth, mushrooms (if using), chicken fat or butter, soy sauce, and bouillon granules. Bring the mixture to a boil, stirring constantly. Let boil for 1 minute, and keep warm. To prepare batter: Beat together the cornstarch, flour, baking powder, egg, and water until smooth. Coat each piece of chicken with the batter. Heat wok or a large skillet and add oil to a depth of 1/2-inch. Heat to 375 degrees. Cook coated chicken pieces in oil until they are golden, turning them once. This should take about 5 - 7 minutes. Drain the chicken on a tempura rack if you have one, or on paper towels. Cut the chicken diagonally into strips. Reassemble the strips into chicken breast shapes and place on a bed of shredded lettuce. Sprinkle with almonds and green onion. Spoon the sauce over the chicken and serve.

Oh, my! Around here all the stores have fresh pomegranate juice. I thought you meant from fruit since the pomegranates are just coming ripe. :) I'm sure you could make pomegranate molasses from grenadine, too, which is just a thinner version of the same thing, if you can get the real kind (rather than chemical). Most liquor stores carry some version of it. Pomegranate molasses has the consistency of warm honey--good and thick, and globby, but pourable. More of a syrup. Like very warm molasses.

FWIW, I didn't take it as a derogatory comment asking how could you miss it. I know how I miss certain things these days. I avoid a lot of the news programs. I do have the Newsflow app on my computer and I get headlines from a few different sources which keeps me abreast of a lot of important things. You choose the newsfeeds you want. It gives a slider with headlines. If it's something about the Comb-over in Chief sticking his foot in his mouth again, I can easily avoid it. If it's a weather alert, or a headline that harnesses my interest, I check the article. After a recent week in the hospital and 6 units of blood later, I've had other things to concern myself with than fluff news and stories. I can very easily see how someone would miss a thing like the romaine scare. Nothing to be ashamed about. There's other things in life than watching the news all the time. The older I get and the more ridiculousness I see, the less I watch the news. When it's idiot stories, I turn the news off. Don't need that garbage.
