Katkin, I have enough tilandsia for you :-) I don't care what type of dragon fruit it is....right now I am into edibles and the dragon fruits is such a weird one...it will be a surprise :-) Actually the first time I had a dragon fruit was at a swap....the first time I had a mulberry was a few days ago from a plant I got at a swap...I learn so much and try so many different things because of gardenweb:-) Veronika, thank you so much....I looked up the the dragon fruit and itlooks cool I can't wait to get it:-) And my hubby has been wanting a lobster claw for awhile now. We bought some seeds once....the birds thanked us for lunch :-)

I'm looking for "air-plants" to tuck into my Palmetto hedge. Things that will grow without soil, and with minimal care. The area is dappled shade, and gets early morning sunlight. I can trade Siam Ruby Bananas, Kiwis (male and female), Dragonfruits, and many other fruiting plants. Have both types of Moringas if anyone wants me to start some. Heys guys, I don't have much experience starting plants but I made an attempt so I would have something to share. I snipped and stuck in a pot 2 pieces of Giant Fantasy coleus and 2 pieces of Inky Fingers coleus, 1 blackberry waffles coleus. I dug up 3 small Kimberly ferns, 3 Portweeds. I attempted to separate a baby from my agave attenuata but I had no idea how to do it and I got barely any roots so I have no idea if it will make it. I have two pieces of epidendrum radicans (i think that is what you guys id'd it as) that I haven't potted because I can't figure out how to do it, but I have been watering them :-> I also have a bucket of bromeliads that I had dug up months ago when I had a tree removed in Stuart. I forgot all about them and they aren't in soil either but they appear to be fine. These are the bromeliads I have two of these NOID plants, might be succulents. These are the epi pieces I don't want any plants since I am moving but I really need a piece of the tree sunflower. Wannarunfaster, can you bring me a piece of the tree sunflower? Would you like anything that I am bringing?

Don, Many types will grow there quite well but you will get mixed results with flowering. Some will flower well one year and not the next. It is hard to decide which ones are best but as for species and cultivars that will flower very well you can't go past Heliconia caribaea x bihai KAWAUCHI Heliconia caribaea x bihai JACQUINII Heliconia bihai CLAW 2 Heliconia bihai CLAW 1 (Single flush of flowers in spring, CLAW 2 is better) Heliconia caribaea x pendula HOT RIO NIGHTS Heliconia lingulata (Flowers year round) Heliconia Birdiana HANGING FLOWERS Heliconia pendula RED WAXY Heliconia collinsiana Heliconia rostrata These are all reasonably large heliconias. I don't waste my time and space with many of the smaller varieties except for Heliconia angusta and a couple of the Heliconia strictas such as JAMAICAN DWARF and DIMPLES. Many of the strictas are poor performers in the subtropics and not worth the effort. Ian mentioned RICHMOND RED. I don't know how long he has grown it but I find that it will flower 'reasonably' well but in some years it can be poor and in my opinion (for me anyway) with a large plant like that if it isn't covered in blooms it aint worth growing so I ripped my clump out.
