Hi everyone...I hope you enjoy this pic of Abraham Darby and Reconciliation...Im amazed at how AD colour deepens the longer it is the vase...This bloom has been 5 days in the vase the colour becoming richer every day....cheers...Michelle

Beautiful Michelle, WOW five days in the vase thats fantastic, up here my buds only last two or three day at the max, maybe I am growing the wrong varieties. How are yours coping during this very hot weather of late, 40 today I believe, gee thats enough to make any Melbourne rose curl up its toes. I do hope they dont get burnt like ours do up here at times. I have noticed that when I bring my roses in they fade, so what am I doing wrong........ Cheers..MM.

A beautiful rose Michelle & it sure has lasted well, in the hot weather I find they don't last for me. Jan.

@johngarment That the stems are reluctant to support their own weight is a very good indication the plant is receiving an inadequate amount of light. That the foliage is concentrated near branch apices (tip of branches/stems where extension growth occurs) could well be an indication that root congestion is significantly limiting your plant's potential. * How long have you owned the plant? * How long has it been in the same pot? * What do you do insofar as fertilizer? when last? what product? what NPK %s? what dosage? * Can you provide an image of the plant and pot? It would be very helpful. * How do you decide when it's time to water? * Do you water in small sips so no water exits the drain hole (the pot does have a drain hole?)? * When you water, are you sure you're saturating the entire soil column and at least 20% of the volume of water used exits the drain hole? * If the pot has a collection saucer, do you allow any water which exits the drain hole to be reabsorbed into the grow medium as the soil dries down? rooting a very long pothos stem

Tiffany, would you plant several nodes (piece of vine with leaves intact) horizontally? Or plant a piece of vine deeply with several nodes, removing all but the top leaf? Or possibly a long vine as Massey was asking, with several defoliated leaf nodes deep in the soil? I have always just planted single pothos leaves with their root nodes, in small pots with no drainage :O I've been switching all my plants over to better soil with lots of perlite added -and drainage- as I pot up and they are going crazy. The difference between "doing fine" and thriving just blows my mind. I repotted this guy from a small clay pot without drainage two weeks ago, into a 4" plastic pot, thinking it might be good not to go too large too soon...The roots are coming out the bottom already! (This one's 4 vines) I also chopped up and repotted the straggly old "mama" plant in a much deeper pot, defoliating longer pieces of vine and planting deep, and laying a couple sections horizontally a bit shallower that had sprouts at several of the root nodes. It's looking kind of crappy right now, had been too long in old soggy soil. If it takes off it should be an amazing plant.

Thankyou MM and ginnybee Yes I know the vase life is wonderful of Abraham Darby. Its a new rose for me this year bought after my visit to Tassie.I am so impressed with this rose....I have the vase in the photo next to the computer and even now I can see that it has deepened in colour again! MM...I think its the weather. I posted a thread about the lack of perfume and Tom-P said it was the weather...The heat I suppose....He said wait for the Spring when they ( the roses)come back with a vengence :)) BTW the hyderangers are NOT coping,wilting and sun burnt and now I have constructed shade cloth covers...Makes the world of difference. ..MM I would wait until the weather cools down especially in Qld.They will come good again . cheers...Michelle

I couldnt see the pix unfortuneately. Regarding the vase time for our hot summer conditions, was wondering if others have tried the method of putting them in water in the fridge for a few hours immediately after picking.. I found that used to help a lot (when i grew roses), altho on the really hot sultry days nothing seemed to help much..
