Another Tassie Day in the Sun

This little lot is now in the freezer as Pesto. Will do another batch or two tomorrow.

My kitchen smells divine. Still picking caps too.

I love Basil Yes I can imagine the smell it must be wonderful.
I found a Cap coming up out of the compost so its getting plenty of TLC.
Today I noticed it had pea size ones on it, do hope they grow bigger..

We have had a cool start to summer this year and everything is late. I'm hoping I will get a good crop of tomatoes.

Either should work. I am in the south and have two japanese maples they both get a good bit of sun and we have had no problems with them. We also have redbuds all over the place and no problems. Actually, we have had redbuds since I was a small child and I don't remember any problems. My dad still has redbuds from when they first cleared and built their house - and that was at least 50 years ago. I didn't realize that redbuds have shallow root systems. A crape myrtle would work and grow fast. I love my magnolia trees, but they are slow growers, as are oaks. What about another type of maple? We've also had good luck with crabapple trees and they have beautiful blooms.

CR, I am so sorry for your loss. I know Tassie has left a big hole in your heart - but truly, that is the piece of you she takes with her to the Bridge - to keep you close until you meet again. I think the weak and disabled animals are the ones that find their way into our hearts the fastest. Tassie was so lucky to have you.

Yeah right Spatz - I've got enough people wanting to give me work without you adding to it!!! Misty - I've added 'unpaid demolition of ceilings and walls' and tomorrow we are going to cut out all the viewing windows. and start digging the trench for 70 metres of guttering to drain the car parking area. Builders labourer was never on my CV when I gave up the lecture circuit and lucrative school for no pay and hard slog! The fellow across the road who raised the objection because "children are an abomination" has gone to ground after council unanimously approved everything and gave their full support to the project. So its all systems go now. We take a few littlies up there for a couple of hours every day so they can get used to the new place and they love it. We have been given a tame pig, some chickens, a cow and calf, some rabbits and ducks and we have two volunteer artists who will do a lot of internal murals and things, I love how people get behind each other in this place and it is rewarding. I do what I can and Bob is amazing but physically I still have some challenges, but I think the more you rise to a challenge the stronger you become. I've lost 3 kilos , so it has its side benefits! Saturdays are for my own garden work so I'd better get out there before Bob spits it and accuses me of delaying tactics!

Low shrub for all-day hot sun, drought tolerant

Ornamental pomegranate, it blends right in to a Mediterranean landscape. It can be like a tiny bush-like tree. If you're in climate zone 10, dwarf natal plum is pretty drought tolerant, the little white flowers are pleasant smelling at night (better smelling than jasmine, in my opinion) but it has a lot of spikes. The little red fruits (when fully ripe) can also be made into preserves.

I'm glad you're back where you belong because I lost your address and have some chillie seeds to send you. Can you email it through again. I think here are a couple from the channel - if hey are still on here. Manuel is at Woodbridge I think, but its near enough! Out tomatoes were late, we got plenty but its starting to cool off again now so I anticipate having to get rid of a lot of green ones. MM, give it plenty water - you should do OK in Brisbane. I can't believe my luck with the caps - just on the lookout for some seeds of the yellow ones that I hear are being grown hydroponically somewhere in this area.

My Basil has gone well this year, I am pleased to say, never grown it before and hate buying it. So now I can pop out into the garden and pick a few leaves, and then frolick back to the kitchen, with a smile on my face. Love that fresh smell.

My watermelon vine is dying, its done well too, we have had a few huge melons, and they are just outside the door. We have made lots of melon juice. It was all self sown as well, even better !

Growing your own food, is wonderful !
