For a change, some photos of plants in my own yard.

Variegated Shell Ginger

White Petunias.

Juvenile Grey Butcher Bird, I just love listening to them sing.

Fantastic Pics once again Barbara, Love that butterfly
And the Gingers they are such a lovely plant
With so many different coloured flowers.
The old faithfull Petunia always in flower your whites are very pretty.
And Yes those Butcher Birds sing the most beautiful songs a joy to listen too.

A tractor that "goes on its own" sounds like an accident waiting to happen. If the engine has a magneto type ignition, there will be an electric pulse generated when the flywheel is turned-that is basic physics. If there is no ground wire to discharge this pulse, then there will be a spark generated, and the engine will run, if it has fuel and air. It sounds like the magneto/ignition ground circuit is defective.

LOL, Carol! Yes, the assistants are important, even if they're not so good looking. Do you have photos from your trip? Did you use a tour company, or go it alone? I've been dying to do an English garden tour, but it never seems to happen. On the other hand, when I come home from any trip, I seem to have photos of nothing but gardens! It's so interesting to visit botanic gardens and even small neighborhood parks in different countries - I tell myself that garden style is as important an aspect of a culture as the architecture and other arts, and I'd really (if secretly) rather visit gardens than museums. Back home ... I think you can try to control views, even without the acreage to create gorgeous views. Perimeter planting with 'appropriate' gaps is my goal, and this is also my worst problem - finding plants that will grow to, say 18 feet, to block the view of neighbors' houses, but not too much taller, to prevent claustrophobia. It's a real challenge to get the appropriate plants to grow around the perimeter, where there are problems like maples (serious shade and root competition), solid wood fences (which rob both rain and sun for smaller plants) and lack of my attention (who can remember to water and weed the unseen?). Please tell us more about your trip!

Thank you Sharon and SoFl My daughter is the prettiest flower in my yard for sure And the name of that red rose is: Mandarin Ice - a Kordes Rose - and I bought it from Chamblee nursery 2 1/2 years ago. It's an continuously blooming rose bush and the roses blossom in clusters. Just divine! Very vigorous plant!

Pippa, if you look at my first photo, I followed the same protocol. Remove a little sod, create some bed space, remove more sod, create some bed space,.... It's tedious, but at least you get to see some finished product, right? Your garden is really taking shape. The completed sections look great! I hope a thermal-pak and some rest gave your back some relief. My sister and I joke about "cutting board back" which attacks us when we spend hours chopping stuff and prepping a big meal. "Sod removal and mulch back" is much more agonizing! Plumeria and Stephanie, thank you for the compliments! You are a wonderful gardener, Plumeria. It amazes me how much you have accomplished from scratch. Everything is trial and error, live and learn, in a garden. Florida is a piece of paradise, but it also has its irritating challenges to deal with, and you are a trooper with a wonderful, growing garden! Stephanie: Corvallis--you must be a Beaver. :-) I am so glad you have some real gardening space in which to create and to enjoy now in LA! Lots of super good stuff grows down there. Wonderful photos. I have a variegated shell ginger but only a few of the leaves are remaining variegated. The others have gone plain green. Do you think it doesn't get enough sun. Also my purple basil has gone green.

Lovely the ginger is good enough for a necklace a bit bulky but different a good capture of the Butterfly.

Great photos Barbarah. I also have those gingers, one is planted under the poinciana and receives early morning sun in summer, full sun in winter.

Love the butterfly, and butchie is cute.

Lovely pics. Barbarah I don't know the ginger does it have a perfume? I also love the song of the butcher bird even though one killed my canary a few months ago, also the petunia looks great I always have a lot of them as the perfume is so wonderful

Jan sorry to hear about your canary. I guess the butcher birds around here are well behaved, as they don't seem to cause any problems around here.
The ginger flowers don't seem to have any perfume but the leaves do if you crush them, also the rhizomes.

Love the butterfly. I too love the song of the butcherbird, but we have trouble with them trying to attack our canaries in the aviary. You can't blame them exactly...no-one told them they are pets and not to be eaten! lol. As usual your pictures are superb.
