I'm a huge rain lily fan and grow a ton of them in my garden, since, as you said, they don't need to be attached to life support (drip irrigation), LOL. Almost every nursery in the Phoenix area sells rain lilies, including most big box hardware stores, so you shouldn't have any trouble finding them. If you like more obscure/new varieties, check out the Plant Delights Nursery catalog/website. I've purchased several new hybrids from SE Asia from them (love their catalog contents, HATE the catalog covers, LOL). McClure and Zimmerman, the great bulb company also offers rain lilies and various spider lilies in their catalogs too. They have some neat subtropical bulbs which thrive here, although you'll have to weed through a lot of cold winter spring bulbs too. Let us know where you find them and how they do for you. I've started using Mediterian fan palm leaves, which I have growing in my yard, to line hanging baskets. I lay it in while green, then put plastic with a hole in the bottom on top of them, and then the potting soil. I cut the palm leaves evenly along the top after the potting soil has settled in. It's been working very well. Before I thought of the palm leaves, which are very long lasting, I lined with deer netting then put a thin layer of mulch from the tree trimers, then plastic and potting soil. If you like the look of coconut liner some places sell it by the foot. You could use it and then line with plastic to keep it looking nice longer. Just some ideas that maybe people can use .... Mine bloom on & off through the year. Usually after a lot of rain. The ones in full sun and the ones in full shade bloom about the same, the ones in full sun are taller and fuller and reproduce faster than the ones in full shade. I rarely fertilize anything and this is one of those plants you see blooming at abandoned homesites. They will sometimes not bloom for several years after being moved. Kind of like crinums. I've had them bloom right after moving them and then not again for a couple of years. Others bloom no matter what. I had some, along with some crinums waiting to be planted, it rained and they all bloomed. I have some that were rescued off the beach after a storm a few years ago, they were being tossed around in the surf, some that were rescued from the street where someone dug them up and threw them out!, empty lots provided others, some came when the trailer park was closed. They are very tough plants and require little if any care. Though they are a favorite food for snails. Lycoris/red spider lilies are also called hurricane lilies as they bloom during hurricane season. Ours are blooming now-just the yellow ones, no signs of red ones yet around the island. Ignore them all!! Tally Ho!

These multiply slowly in my un irrigated un amended rocky Edwards Plateau hillside. It might be different where you are. I know that some people who live in amended clay seem to have plenty to share at some swaps. So they must be quicker than here. I have never gotten these shown above to make seed.
