Now I know how they get thair name. My vine is strangling a 20m tall gum, has crossed over the cubbyhouse and the hibiscus and is heading on the other side for the shed. It's in full bloom so maybe I'll have a pile of the blotters soon.

Mrs Grub loves them. Not looking forward to donning the rubber gloves to peel them, though. Looks like a big late Autumn crop of the green things. Speaking of cool-season crops, I had good results with Kohl Rabi and plan to plan hundreds of them in late Autumn once my tommies finally give up the ghost.

That hosta is also called 'On Stage'. That is part of its "act" to change colors. Here is what the library database says: ******************************************** H. montana 'On Stage' = H. 'Cho Ko Nishiki' - Japan 14" tall. Part Sun to Light Shade. Yellow primary leaf color with a two tone green margin streaking to the center. Leaves 8 x 5. Purple flowers. A large montana hybrid with yellow leaf, irregular green margins. This is one of the most talked about hostas in any garden. The pointed, deeply veined leaves are green with a multi-tone gold center. It emerges very late in spring with a bright gold center that changes later to white, then to a light/dark green contrast late in the season. When planted in morning sun, it holds its color better through the summer. The 3' wide clumps are topped with light lavender flowers in early summer on 48" scapes. Yellow leaves with irregular green margins, a rapid grower; lavender flowers. The reversed form of montana 'Aureo-marginata'. Leaves are yellow with irregular two-tone green margins. Paula sweetie, your link really busted my allowance wide open. Only a few pennies left of it. That link has some serious miniature garden toys. Among other things I ordered the bistro table and chair set in white....now I must paint OUR REAL set white or offwhite. And I got the chicken coop with chickens...don't you know my DH mentioned building such a coop and getting about 3 little egglayers tonight? It was meant to be! Then the garden bench and chair and the arbor and the wagon like the one I have really, and the martin house and the bee skep (for Quilting Bee Hosta) The watering can and the garden tools and the galvanized tub ..... it is hard to stop once you get started. I can see these adding a lot of eye level appeal to otherwise plain plantings of multiple hosta or fern etc in bowls or tubs. This kicks it up a notch from simple pot feet! Is there a contest for Miniature Gardens? I am enchanted by the bistro table with the gazebo or arbor. Jo, you can make one as beautiful as that 200+ $$dollar one. Very exciting to think of a couple of the tubs set up. However, I know this is not my main passion. It is a great diversion adding variety to the garden experience.

Beautiful. Your other hosta look so healthy as well - they like what you're doing for them. Have two Wide Brim for same reason - it looked so good. I was walking thru a growers sales area recently commenting how I like this one and that one ..... then I look at the tags ..... and then congratulate myself on my good taste, lol. Paul p.s. Saija, it won't take you long to get one I'm sure! I kept seeing so many beautiful photos of LPP that I just couldn't fight the urge any longer, lol. New last year. RE is in its third year and has gained nicely in size. Best show yet for this small hosta even though it is still a bit lanky. Love it's flowers and scapes.

I grew some KR last year. Nice, versatile things, but I just don't have the space.

Pick 'em when they're babies Grub. Yummy steamed or even thinly sliced raw in salads. But only the baby ones, egg size, are nice this way. The growing tips are good in stir fries. They have a bean flavour.

Okay, I'll try the tips. However, I'm not sure how I am going to harvest the Choko when they set. Most of the vine is tens of metres in the air! Maybe I'll have to make a noose or something. Or slimb the tree.

The Kohl Rabi were great last year, being easy to grow, and the only brassica besides Yates Purple Top Swede that has worked for me in Sydney. Cauli gave me a few tiny heads, brocc' was slightly better, brussel sprouts were fluffy things that I later found out needed frost to set heads. But for a few woody ones, the Kohl Rabi were tops with white sauce and corned beef in about July. But enough of that talk for now.
